SENECA, S.C. – A fire has heavily damaged the home of Clemson baseball coach Jack Leggett on Lake Keowee.

Keowee Fire Chief Richie Caudill says no one was home when the fire started Sunday afternoon. He says it took 50 firefighters about two hours to put out the blaze.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. WSPA-TV in Spartanburg reports there were thunderstorms in the area at the time.

Caudill says the blaze was mostly contained to the attic and firefighters were able to save many items inside, even though the roof collapsed.

Firefighters stayed at the home throughout the night to make sure the fire didn’t flare up again.

Clemson athletic spokesman Tim Bourret says Leggett is on vacation.
