The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a 53-year-old Beech Island woman this afternoon in connection with last week’s hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist.

Christine Bryant is in jail on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with death.

Lance Cpl. Trevor Clinton said investigators received a tip that led to a search warrant of the property where a 1996 green Saturn sedan had been burned in an attempt to conceal the vehicle’s involvement in the accident that killed 43-year-old Noel Barrett of Beech Island.

According to officials, the victim was struck from behind by a vehicle on Urquhart Drive about seven miles south of North Augusta just after midnight on July 15.

Ms. Bryant is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
