DA's office to probe death

Columbia County police have asked the district attorney’s office to review evidence in the death of an Evans pedestrian struck by a vehicle last week, Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris announced today.

Christian Giles, a 24-year-old kindergarten teacher, was struck by a Ford Expedition about 9 p.m. Wednesday. She was walking with her husband and dogs along the edge of Mullikin Road near her Sawbuck Way home.

Charges against the driver, Brandon Wise, 24, of Evans, are pending the joint review of the case by the sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office, Capt. Morris wrote in an e-mail.

A final decision on charges could take a few weeks, he wrote.
