According to a news release issued this morning, board members of the MCG Real Estate Corp., a cooperative organization of the Medical College of Georgia created in 2006, will vote at a called August meeting on whether or not to reorganize the corporation as a new foundation for the university.

"We believe this is an efficient, effective method for moving forward with a new foundation for the Medical College of Georgia," said Andrew Newton, MCG vice president for legal affairs,in a statement.

If approved, the new foundation will be named The Georgia Health Sciences University Foundation, Inc., and will meet the University System of Georgia's definition of a cooperative organization, Mr. Newton said. It also will support MCG's other cooperative organizations, such as MCG Health Inc., the not-for-profit corporation which manages the university's clinical enterprise.
