AIKEN -- The passenger in a late model Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene of a single vehicle crash in Aiken County Sunday night, according to a news release from the Aiken County coroner.

The crash happened about 10:35 p.m. when the unrestrained passenger, identified as Andre Garrett, 21, of the 100 block of Hampton Avenue, was in a vehicle driven by Brandon Curry of the 400 block of Jehossee Drive.

According to the coroner's office, the two men were traveling north on Monetta Sreet when Mr. Curry ran off of the road onto the right shoulder. After traveling about 150 feet on the shoulder the vehicle struck a tree, overturned and ejected Mr. Garrett, who died from his injuries.
