Knox leads Georgia Amateur

Augusta’s Jeff Knox fired a 6-under-par 64 to lead after the first round of the Georgia Amateur at Idle Hour Club in Macon.

Knox was among 42 players who finished their opening round this morning after a weather delay Thursday. The Augusta Prep golf coach shot 32-32 on the par 70 layout.

Robert Sheats, Tim Schaetzel and defending champion Harris English are two shots back. Augusta State golf coach Josh Gregory shot 2-under 68.

Evans resident Chris Waters shot an opening round 72 and is tied for 30th. Lakeside golfer Brian Carter, who was the low medalist in recent qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur, opened with 74.

The second round is under way.
