The lead arson investigator for the Augusta Fire Department has been suspended, pending an investigation into DUI charges.
Lt. G.B. Hannan, 59, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Broad Street after police reported that he was driving without headlights. He was booked into the Richmond County jail and released just after midnight after being charged with DUI, according to jail records.
On Thursday night, Augusta Fire Chief Howard Willis confirmed that Lt. Hannan has been suspended as of Wednesday “with pay, pending an investigation and, until it is complete.”
Lt. Hannan is set to appear before a judge on July 15, Chief Willis said.
