Red Cross helping fire victims

The American Red Cross of Augusta is providing assistance to the families who lost their homes in the fire at a West Augusta apartment complex Monday night.

Nine families consisting of 18 people have been given emergency shelter in local hotels and money to purchase clothing and medicine after the fire at Traditions of Augusta apartments at 3722 Walton Way Extension, according to a Red Cross press release.

Firefighters were called to the area at about 6 p.m. and the blaze was under control in about an hour, officials said. No one was injured in the fire.
