Body found near New Ellenton

The body of a 21-year-old man was found near New Ellenton this morning, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.

Marcus L. Finklin appeared to have been shot at least once with a small-caliber handgun late last night or early this morning, Mr. Carlton said. A county road crew working on Dry Branch Court found his body about 8 a.m.

An autopsy was scheduled this afternoon in Newberry, S.C.,Mr. Carlton said.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.
