Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver unveiled architectural drawings of a proposed downtown baseball stadium this morning and answered questions about the first phase of a feasibility site study.

The presentation at the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame's Botanical Gardens also raised questions, such as how the city will acquire the property now owned by the state and how the $31 million to build it will be paid for.

That is the next step, according to the mayor. The finance committee of the volunteer group which explored the feasibility of a multi-use complex will meet to consider which funding option would be the best - revenue bonds or general obligation bonds that would have be approved by voters in a referendum.

"We still have to have some questions answered there," the mayor said.

Mr. Copenhaver said the targeted opening date for the stadium is 2010. It would be home to the Augusta GreenJackets team in the South Atlantic League.
