A Hephzibah man is dead after he was shot in the head by a passenger in his car while driving in south Augusta tonight.

Corey Joseph, 21, of Arrowwood Circle, was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. from a single gunshot wound, said Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.

Sheriff's investigators are looking for two men who were riding in a car with Mr. Joseph's, one of whom is said to be the shooter.

The shooting happened on North Kensington Street in the Georgetown subdivision. Mr. Joseph was shot while driving and the car left the street, crashed through a fence and hit a carport.

The woman who lived in the house tried to help Mr. Joseph and saw the two passengers jump from the car and run, Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Roundtree said.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday morning at Augusta's crime lab.
