Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

IF YOU OR I WROTE the health care reform bill, it would probably fit on one page of a yellow legal notepad. Also, it would benefit us, the people. Isn't that what Congress is supposed to be doing? And why are all the lobbyists involved when they're the reason health care needs to reformed?

I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE a big fat F to the geniuses at the Medical College of Georgia. I challenge you big CEOs and corporate schmucks to park and walk into work each morning from the outlying parking lots. Clearly the concept of more parking decks makes too much sense to implement.

WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE can misuse a credit card or turn a blind eye to sexual harassment and not get fired? Is it because of fear of a discrimination suit, or is it a good friend looking out for a good friend?

THE COURTHOUSE STATUE restoration sounds sort of expensive, but when government is involved prices always rise. The 1960s city fathers decided that beautiful statue was "too old-fashioned." That shows the idiocy of politicians from the '60s, who brought us a whole lot of trouble nationwide.

THANK YOU, Scott Michaux, for your article about Jack Nicklaus. Parents should stress to their children the importance of modeling oneself after a genuine man such as Jack. And adults -- take the same message. This is what a real man is -- not just an icon of the game. Tiger could definitely learn something from Jack.

THOSE WHO SAID in November 2008 that the Republican Party was dead had better line up now to eat their plate of crow. As Massachusetts goes, so will the rest of the country this November, and we'll see then which party is dead.

A RANT FOR the Republicans in the Senate. How can 41 people who don't have to pay for their health care now get to deny millions of Americans the same? What a great country we live in.

I WANTED TO COMMENT about what Gov. Mark Sanford said in his State of the State address. I agree with him about raising taxes on not only cigarettes, but also alcoholic beverages in bars and in any restaurant where they serve alcohol. The state of Georgia should consider this, too. Maybe you'd have less drinking and less smoking.

A RANT TO the TEE center. Do you want the Marriott and all the other new hotels to be run out of business? It's an ego trip to be the mayor of big buildings. Get rid of the crime, the crackheads and the potholes, and we may spend money in Augusta.

THE AIKEN COUNTY COUNCIL proposed authorization and loan for over $600,000 for the Beech Island Fire Department. For that much, you can build a new Beech Island.

The permanent statue representing fair legal practices and justice is costing much less than getting rid of Chiquita.....try that perspective.

To the Ranter about being denied health care- you nor I are guaranteed a right to health care nor should we be. The 41 smart senators did not vote for a bill filled with pork barrell spending and helping out a few select groups such as the unions. If you don't live under a rock, you will see that the majority of Americans don't want the current health care bill being proposed as it a ridiculous waste of taxpayer monies. As for the senators getting health care, it is part of their salary and they work for the government - the ones that are trying to get free health care now already get plenty of free stuff from our government (The Taxpayers) such as EBT cards, public housing assistance, transportation assistance, tax credits, etc. of which most all needs to end. We the taxpayers should assist children and the elderly but not able bodied Americans. Furthermore, we should not enable individuals to get more money simply by having more children as we are rewarding irresponsible behavior with our tax dollars. It is a great country we live in and those 41 members represent the MAJORITY that does not want more social programs that are greatly missused. The USA owes you nothing!!

asitisinaug i hope everyone can understand the truth. we need too get the dems out of office they are running this country in the ground.

A thought for the day: Words from William Blake, "When I tell the truth, it is not for the

sake of convincing those who do not know it, but for the sake of defending those that do."

overburdened_taxpayer

It's LT. Governor Bauer not Lt. Bauer.

To the one's that are concerend about not getting health care, just go to the ER, they have to treat you each time you go.For the one's that did not want to see healthcare pass, you can continue to pay out of your pockets for the people who have to go to the ER.!!!

overburdened_taxpayer

There is that entitlement mentality you are so famous for 1941. Maybe the first reform to healthcare should be that anyone going to the emergency room for a non-emergency should be turned away. You want reform? Make it meaningful reform and include Tort reform.

U.Dumus

1941 we one's that didnt want healthcare to pass are goning to pay for it either way they. why dont you seem to be mad at the people that do not take responaibilty for themselves but feel like its my fault for going to work everyday.

ColdBeerBoiledPeanuts

You can cure and recover from an illness, but, you can't cure stupid!

willienelson

1941 represents the vast majority of folks who choose to be poor. Some folks are simply born and then just enjoy the ride. They do nothing to prepare for a career, they do nothing to be promoted at work, they put forth no effort to better their circumstances. They simply enjoy the ride and whine that the world doesn't give them enough. This makes for a great recruit by powerful political parties who want to control you and keep you mindless.

1941

I am not ''mad'' at anyone!! My point is something, should be done for those that do not have health care.It seem's as if some people think that, anyone that do not have insurance, just don't want it. It could be that they don't make enough to buy it,or some jobs don't offer it. Most people go to the ER, as a last resource.Car insurance is a perfect example, those that do not have it , we pay it, most of us never use it, but we still must have it!! You can't cure, or recover from an illness unless you have insurance!!!!!

overburdened_taxpayer

You are not required to have car insurance. You simply decide that you want to own a car and operate it on the public highways. Therefore you must have car insurance to get it licensed under STATE law. Those who do not have a car are not forced to buy it. Those that cannot afford healthcare due to their low wages or an employer that does not supply it have made choices in their lives that put them where they are. I shouldn't have to buy it for them because they decided to drop out of school and can't get a good paying job. Those that really need it and can't work (not WON'T work) have medical care in the form of Medicaid. I shouldn't have to pay for it for some slacker. AND the federal government has NO constitutional authority to make me buy any product offered for sale.

ColdBeerBoiledPeanuts

If the current healthcare programs are cleaned up and properly administered then they wouldn't cost so much. If you want free food and free healthcare then pass a drug and alcohol test. The problem most people have with it is the hand me down mentality of the gimme generation.

ColdBeerBoiledPeanuts

1941 if you want something for free, go ask your mama for it don't ask people you don't know. I can tell you what that answer will be!

Purelaughs

Well said Overburdened. I couldn't have said it better myself. People make choices and they need to live with them.

1: Congress doesn't dare write a bill that 99% of Americans can understand. It's not good for their job security. 2: Longer walks equal better cardio vascular health. Congrats to MCG for thinking of their people's health. 3: It's impossible to be fired from Richmond County because there are no professional managers keeping accurate personnel files. 4: Just think: the flower children of the 60's are now our Governors and congresspeople. Scary ain't it? 5: Jack called Tiger to meet for some of that vital instruction. Apparently, Tiger misunderstood Jack's invite to meet at the "19th hole". 6: Don't count your crow until it's served. 7: Yet another ranter who never read any PART of the proposed legislation. 8: Heavens yes, tax those sins. Also tax sugar and foods that make people FAT! 9: If you build it, the crooks will come? 10: Have you hugged a firefighter today? In Beech Island, you'll find him standing outside and ranter says that's OKEY DOAKEY.

dichotomy

The 41 senators are not preventing millions of people from getting healthcare. They are preventing those who work and pay for healthcare already from having to pay a lot more in healthcare premiums and taxes to fund healthcare for the permanent entitlement crowd. The Democrat plan does not lower healthcare costs. It only makes working people pay the healthcare costs for the entitlement crowd. Yes, there are some things that need to be done like outawing denial of coverage. But making working people pay higher costs to cover those who don't work or choose not to buy insurance is not one of those things. The ruse that "evernyone would be required to buy insurance" is just a Trojan Horse when the bill says they will subsidize the payments for the "poor". All that means is that the taxpayer would pay the healthcare premiums for those on permanent entitlement programs. You can have all of the healthcare reform you want as long as you do not raise taxes or premiums on the majority of Americans who work and pay for their own healthcare already. In every country where healthcare has been made an entitlement, you can't get much of it and what you do get is not the "best".

Ayetidiosi

Any bill which subsidizes health care insurance premiums for families making FOUR HUNDRED PERCENT of poverty level, is not "reform".

kulay294

For the idiot who HAS a job to walk to and is mad because they don't have a parking deck to park in, you give MCG a few hundred thousand dollars and I'm sure they'll build you one. Otherwise walk your wide tail from the parking lot to your job!!!!

corgimom

Parents should teach their children not to model their behavior over a celebrity or a sports star to begin with, but instead instill values and standards of behavior in their children. An athlete isn't, and never should be, a role model for children.

If my kid made $100 mil a year I wouldn't care about his lifestyle choices. He would have EARNED that right. "Have fun, boy!"

deekster

The Congress and the Senate do not write bills. Lobbyist and legal aides write bills. You wonder why they were quoted as saying, " I haven't read the bill". Blue Cross/Blue Shield lawyers write insurance laws. Atlanta Gas Light lawyers composed the "Gas Deregulation Laws". Corporations write their own laws through lobbyist/lawyers. The wealthy and privileged of our republic write the laws for the great unwashed. It has been that way since 1776 and it will not change. Even Communism will not change the system. The working class and poor, black and white are so much "fodder" for the fire in the minds of these despots. AWAKEN

Tiger's lifestyle is part of the "trivial news" being used as a smoke screen to cover the important issue in America. He's not the deacon at the local Baptist Church. Tiger is not ill. Tiger is doing what any rich, narcissistic, spoiled young man does. He does as many as he can. It is a measure of his success. While we may not agree with his choices, they are his. It was fine for JFK. It is okay for all of our the "kings and princes".

deekster

Speaking of the local church. I'm waiting for an answer to what is preached at the local African American Churches. Does African Liberation Theology includes the sins of fornication, gluttony, sloth, murder, theft, pride, covetousness? I would like to know. Help us come together and understand. Maybe a new "mission statement" should be created.

1941, I paid for my insurance and other necessities through life, but did not buy jewelry, tattoos, or chrome wheels for my car. Maybe I can convince dumbobama and his cronies that the government should now buy me a house at the beach. I don't have one and by your logic...l should have, other people have one. Thanks Mass., but more importantly,,,,,THANK YOU TROOPS AND VETERANS.

MarshCroaked

usafvet, man, some hair extension weaves and a nice matching finger and toe nail paint scheme would do wonders for your self esteem and attitude. Give it a try, brother! You can get both in blue and silver in honor of our branch!
