Vanity, selfishness misdirect millions

  • Follow Letters

Recently, a rare U.S. 1913 Liberty nickel coin sold for more than $3.7 million. I wonder how many starving children could have been fed with $3.7 million?

If God had humanity on trial, this would be Exhibit A for the prosecution. It's amazing how intelligent humans tolerate this madness. We will spend more than $3.7 million to purchase a nickel, and not place as much value on a person whom we confess to love.

Humanity is in dire need of a global exorcism to expel the spirit of vanity that now resides in the heart of modern man.

Kevin Palmer, Martinez

Mr Palmer, I'm quite

Mr Palmer, I'm quite confident that you researched the name of the coin buyer and checked his/her tax records to see how much is donated annually to charity before writing this letter, right? Wealth envy/redistribution propaganda at it's finest.

From the liberal

From the liberal anti-Christian perspective, if all of those children had just been aborted the problem would have never come up, Mr Palmer.

Kevin, the same thing could be said about all the pork this idiot congress puts into the bills they vote on. You might want to aim some of this venom at them.

How many could have been fed using the money Obama used for his night on the town in NY with his wife? This wealth envy could go on and on and on.

Who's to say that the seller

Who's to say that the seller of the coin didn't use the proceeds to provide charity? And that it won't be resold again and again to do good. Materials are bought and sold everyday. It's called business and made this country great. The problem is inside people's hearts.

Being rich allows for the ability for philanthropy. How much do you think Bill Gates would have been able to give to charities had it not been for Microsoft? Bankrupt America and we won't be able to help ourselves let alone other countries with disasters like Haiti.

About 50% of this $3.7

About 50% of this $3.7 million will be turned over by force to the federal government and this sellers state government. And you talk about exorcising personal vanity? How about exorcising the government's out of control spending? Perhaps the seller of this coin could be a little more charitable with his money if the government didn't take half of everything he makes. And you know, the US citizens are literally the most charitable group of people in the world. I really don't think we should be criticized for success.

I guess if Kevin and his followers won the lottery, each and every one of them would turn the money over to the poor and keep none of it for themselves. It's always easier to armchair quarterback.
