The government doesn't my private phone number, they can write a letter if they need something else.
Forms for the 2010 U.S. Census won't be mailed until March, but officials already are warning people to beware of potential scams.
Georgia's Better Business Bureau said Wednesday that a bogus e-mail in circulation claims it's from the bureau and tells recipients to give census takers no more information than how many people live in the household.
Actually, most households in March will receive a 10-question form that asks for basic information such as household size, gender and race.
"The best way to deal with the scams is simply to return the form," said Mallory Millender, a co-chairman of the Augusta Census Complete committee.
The Census Bureau will never contact anyone by e-mail. Census workers visit homes that don't respond between April and June.
Other tell-tale signs of a scam include if a solicitor asks for someone's Social Security number or credit card information.
Scams can hurt the bureau's mission to collect the most accurate data possible.
Census data is important because it is used to determine the allocation of congressional representatives and federal money to the states for projects such as road construction, hospital research and emergency services.
Census workers will wear badges that contain a Department of Commerce watermark and can provide residents with their supervisor contact information and the regional office phone number.

WHAT TO EXPECT
WHAT CENSUS WORKERS WILL ASK YOU
- How many people live in your home?
- What are the birth dates of those people and their race/gender?
- What is your phone number? (In case answers aren't clear)
WHAT THEY WON'T ASK YOU
- What is your Social Security number?
- What is your credit card information?
- Are you willing to make a donation?
The government doesn't my private phone number, they can write a letter if they need something else.
Uhh, the government already has your private phone number.
With some of the LIES being spewed by Michelle Bachman, Drugbauch, KKKanity and Beck some of these census workers I fear for their safety.
What an idiot Notreally is. You've shown that you're "not really" living in reality. We all know you CAN'T do it, but please list some of the "lies" you claim are being spewed by the political right? We'll be waiting.....Waiting for a LONG time.
Now, back to my original thought.....The official census was mandated by the Constitution to simply count the number of people in the country by location to establish representative districts. Nothing more. THAT is what the Constitution, which to Conservatives, IS the law of the land. This will be the 4th official census that I have participated in as an adult and I will answer the Constitutionally mandated question of the number of people living in my household. Nothing less. Nothing more. When the census takes knock on my door I will, as I always do, show them my copy of the Constitution and answer again the question of how many people live in my household. THAT is what the law states I have to do. Any additional information that is provided would be purely on a voluntary basis only.
Notreally Back this up with some FACTS. Name one occasion where someone has physically hurt someone or killed someone in the name of any of those you mentioned. You can't cause there aren't any. I can name 2 violent liberals without even doing any research. Martha Coakley's aid who pushed a reporter to the ground for trying to ask her a question about her views on Afghanistan. Second, the SCIU member who attacked and beat up a peaceful tea party attendee. I am totally sick of the socialist lefties on this site spewing venom and hate but never facts. Never facts.
A Bachman LIE: BACHMANN: Twenty-eight pages. Sean, you know the one question they don’t ask? They don’t ask, “are you an American citizen?” They don’t ask if you’re here on a visa or when it expires. We have no real idea how many illegal aliens are in our country. But wouldn’t you think, here they are asking every personal question about our lives, they could at least ask if we’re an American citizen? They don’t bother to ask for that. That’s why I think people need to read this census for themselves. If you go to my website, michelebachmann, you can read it.
FACT: The American Community Survey does ask about U.S. citizenship and it has since 1890:
Actually notreally, you are wrong. I just went to the official US Census site. It does not ask if you are a US Citizen nor does it even talk about Visas. Bachmann is correct and you are not. So, we are still waiting for some facts from you. Here's the link. http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/d20ap0.pdf
Those aren't citizenship questions, they ask if you live here or stay here most of the time. Most illegal immigrants would say yes. And some US citizens would say no.
I see that you re-read questions 7 & 8 and decided to remove your comment notreally. There is no mention whatsoever of citizenship on the Census form.
lol..whoah there fruity...gotcha !!!
Notreally wants to claim, like all on the left, that Conservatives tell lies. Who was it that stated OVER AND OVER, that the health care debate WOULD be broadcast on C-Span? Who was it that promised that Gitmo WOULD be closed? Who was it that said their priority would be to get our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan? Who was it that PROMISED that NO lobbyists would be part of the new administration? It was none other than Obama! Good ol' Joe Wilson sure called it right when he yelled "YOU LIE" to Obama and the other Democrats! I can't recall ONE thing that Obama has been truthful about! Liberals aren't stupid....They just know so much that ISN'T true.
Fiscallyresponsible ... if there is no question asking for citizenship ... how can the census hope to determine the correct number of citizens in each state?
I think it has more to do with population in the state than citizens in the state. It's concerned about number in the household, not whether how many are citizens and how many are not.
ron rlw I'm not really sure. And that is really the problem with the question not being asked and verified. If Los Angeles has 1 million illegals counted in the census, it will give them more representation in Washington when they divide up Congressional districts. These illegals tend to live in mostly democrat leaning districts so it give the dems more representation in Congress.
Interesting ... if illegels are to be counted in the census then this is even more reason to get those that are not in this country legally ... deported. The fact of the matter is that while Section 2 of the 14th amendment starts out just saying "persons" the exceptions at the bottom of the admendment clearly points out that the intention was citizens. Also the Preamble defines that "People" as used in the Constitution means those people that are "of the United States" ... not foreigners ... much less illegals.
The American Community Survey
Constitution sez conduct a headcount, but there are valid Federal laws authorizing the asking of the other questions.
Dixieman ... I don't mind answering most other questions. I do mind giving those that have broken the law to get into this country the same representation as a real citizen.
notreally. Only 3 million American Community Surveys are sent out annually. According to the US Census site it is "designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing". What it does not do is align Congressional districts - one of the main purposes of the Census. It is irrelevant to this discussion.
Glad I read your post before posting fiscally, and yes you are correct. Totally different bird than the Census topic at hand.....
Why do we need to know the race of individuals? What happened to discrimination on account of race, religion, sex, sex lifestyle or age. This should have been removed by the "dimocrats" long ago. Why because the U.S. Government owns "the race issue". It is the means to absolute power. Not a sentence is spoken by our "color blind" leaders that does not evoke division because of skin color.
Do we not all bleed red? Do we not all breath the same air and drink the same water? Why is it important to the government to chronicle my skin color?
Deekster ... you're correct. Until race is nolong important to either side ... racism will always be a problem. On this MLK had it right ... his dream was for a man to be judged on the content of his charater and not the color of his skin.
Unfortunately race does play into re-drawing congressional districts. That's politics and that is why the question is asked. Because otherwise, it really is irrelevant.
Chillen ... you are correct ... but I would phrase it slightly different. Race is irrelavant, but politics forces the continuation of racism.
Sad but very true
The federal government took "ownership" of African American in 1863. They replaced the "chains of iron" with "chains of economic and educational stagnation". The African American hatred and resentment is created and directed by their new masters.
The revolution of 1776 created a "middle class". The revolution of 1863 created a "perpetual dependent class". The revolution of 2008 continues to create a new America........ Paul Harvey is gone. Karl Marx would be so proud of us. Never ending revolution.
