An opening reception for an exhibition featuring the artist Walter Cumming will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Cultural Center Art Hall, 1301 Greene St.

Recruitment drive

A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School will hold a Recruitment and Open House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the school, 1324 Laney-Walker Blvd.

A tour of classrooms is included, and potential students can meet faculty members and staffers.

Elvis birthday

Happy Birthday Elvis, a celebration of Elvis Presley's 75th birthday, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Paul S. Simon Discovery Theatre at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St.

The celebration includes a screening of the movie Blue Hawaii , rated PG, along with a performance by Elvis tribute artist Jason Sikes and the Sassy Brass Band.

Tickets cost $15, $20 and $25.

An Art Meets Fashion Extravaganza will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Marriott Hotel & Suites, 2 10th St.

Tree recycling

Augusta-Richmond County Solid Waste will recycle Christmas trees through Friday, Jan. 15.

Leave natural trees at the curb on the first pickup day. Fake Christmas trees will be picked up as bulk waste on the second pickup day. Remove the decorations.

Natural Christmas trees from any county may be taken to the landfill at 4330 Deans Bridge Road, Blythe, to be recycled at no charge.

Unity Breakfast

A Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Augusta Marriott Hotel & Suites, 2 10th St.

The keynote speaker will be state Rep. Alisha Thomas-Morgan. The breakfast is sponsored by the Alpha Chi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. It costs $30.
