CRAWFORDVILLE, GA - Mr. John Veazey Wynne, Jr. age 92, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Allyene Long Wynne died Monday January 4, 2010 at the Bolingreen Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Powelton Baptist Church with Revs. Jeff Bishop and James Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Powelton Cemetery. Mr. Wynne will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services at the church. Mr. Wynne, a native and lifelong resident of Taliaferro County, GA, was born November 20, 1917, at the Ogeechee Farm the son of the late John Veazey Wynne, Sr. & Mary Lizzie Sturdivant Wynne. He was a 1935 graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute and a 1940 graduate of the University of Georgia. After graduation Mr. Wynne spent time teaching in both Nashville and Lakeland, Georgia. Mr. Wynne was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Colonel. He was the director of the Taliaferro County Welfare Department for a number of years. Mr. Wynne taught high school at Alexander Stephens Institute before going to work for the Georgia Department of Agriculture and retired from the Department as District Supervisor in 1985 after 20 years of service. After retirement he continued to enjoy farming. An active member of his community, he served as Chairman of the Taliaferro County Welfare Board, President of C.S.R.A. Development Authority, Member of the Taliaferro County Farm Bureau, President of the Powelton Homecoming Committee, member and past District Commander of the American Legion and a member and past president of the Crawfordville Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Crawfordville Baptist Church Brotherhood, Taliaferro County Hunting Club, and Powelton Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Judith W. (Ray) Pearson, of Macon, GA, and Lucile W. (Randy) Hough of Peachtree City, GA, one sister, Dorothy Wynne Gibbs of Social Circle, GA, four grandchildren, Ray Cannon Pearson, Jr., Richard Wynne (Martha) Pearson, John Sadler (Melissa) Young, and Katherine McIntyre Young, one great grandson, James Wynne Pearson, two step grandchildren, Ryan David (Anna) Hough, and Kristen Hough (Joey) Petras, and three step great grandchildren, Brayden Petras, Easton Petras, and Karly Hough. Pallbearers will be Charles W. Green, Larry Veazey, Mike Butts, Perry Pittman, John Bentley, and Jim McMichael. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Regency II Wednesday lunch group. Friends may call at the residence. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M at the funeral home.
