Mrs. Billie Jean Mitchell, 70, wife of Retired Sergeant Major Alfred Mitchell, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Bicentennial Chapel, Ft. Gorden with Chaplain Brian Mead officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Mitchell, a native of Holly Springs, MS, was preceded in death by her mother, Mary McKinney. After fifteen years of service, she retired as an AAFES Manager. Her numerious memberships include Bicentennial Chapel, The Protestant Women of the Chapel, The Living Last Supper staff, the Augusta AAFES Retirees Association, Past Worthy Matron of Mary McLeod Bethune Chaper #468, Past Commandress of Stolkin Court # 173, and Past Imperiall Deputy of the Oasis of Augusta, the Heroines of Jericho. In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is also survived by her father, Ivy McKinney, Chicago, IL; son, Michael Mitchell, Augusta; grandson, Davarian Mitchell, Stone Mountain, GA; aunt, Madge Patterson, Chicago, IL; brothers, Wallace McKinney, James McKinney, Memphis, TN; brothers-in-law, Clifford (Bessie) Mitchell, Charlie (Willie Mae) Mitchell, Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
