Man pulled from car, killed by motorists

ATLANTA --- Police say a man was killed after he was pulled out of a car in the middle of the road in Atlanta and shot to death.

At around 10 p.m. Saturday, three people inside of a blue Mazda dragged another person out of the car and shot him four or five times, according to police.

One round struck the victim in the chest. The shooter and the other people then sped away.

The victim died at the scene.

Van hits, kills toddler in guardians' driveway

KENNESAW --- A 2-year-old child has died after being struck by a van in the driveway of the Cherokee County home where she lived.

A sheriff's spokesman said Marilynd Duty was playing in the driveway around noon Sunday when Mario Viera, 36, of Woodstock, ran her over. The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she died.

Police say the child, along with two of her siblings, has been living at the home with guardians Cheryl and Sid Anderson since August. Mr. Viera is the Andersons' son-in-law.

The sheriff's office is investigating. No charges have been filed.

Police continue hunt for 77-year-old woman

ALBANY --- Authorities were to continue searching Sunday for an elderly woman missing from her south Georgia home since Thursday.

Emergency personnel have been combing the water for 77-year-old Fannie Corley since her teal 1992 Dodge Dynasty was found empty at about 10 a.m. Thursday on a Lee County bridge near Lake Chehaw.

It is feared that she had either jumped or fallen into the lake or nearby creek.

Ms. Corley disappeared from her home Thursday morning.

Police wound suspect in Fayetteville robbery

FAYETTEVILLE --- Police shot and wounded a robbery suspect who pulled a gun at a drug store in Fayetteville.

Officers responded at 7:40 p.m. Saturday to a call reporting an attempted robbery at a Walgreens.

Police say the man was in the pharmacy area when officers arrived. He pulled out a firearm as officers approached, and an officer immediately shot him, police said.

The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was taken into custody and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. His name was not released, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Woman, daughter die in Macon car crash

MACON --- A Savannah woman and her daughter were killed in a Christmas Day car crash in Laurens County.

Ligia Balach, 45, and Nicole Balach, 11, died in the crash, according to county Coroner Richard Stanley III.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened at 6:29 p.m. Friday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 16. Ms. Balach's 13-year-old son was flown by helicopter to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He was in serious but stable condition Saturday. His name was not available.

The accident happened when a merging vehicle hit Ms. Balach's vehicle, causing it to hit a tree. The crash is under investigation.
