Friends asking for holiday help for transplant patient

  • Follow Metro

An Augusta man awaiting a kidney transplant needs help this holiday.

"Many people do not understand the financial burden patients incur before and after a transplant," his friends write. "Have you ever had to face a life-threatening illness? Have you ever become overwhelmed by the restrictive cost to cure your illness?

"Many insurance companies do not pay all the costs associated with a transplant," they add.

The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund has helped people facing such challenges for 79 years.

Last year, the charity raised a record-breaking $124,000 that helped families across the region.
