SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Joseph Fordham, "J.R.", 91, of St. Simons Island, GA passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at Hospice of the Golden Isles after a brief stay. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bob Brearly and Dr. John Law officiating. Mr. Fordham was a native of Plainfield, GA. He was born December 2, 1918. He was the son of the late Rudolph Fordham and the late Effie Taylor Fordham. Mr. Fordham had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 27 years. He was a member of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Fordham retired from Chevron Oil Company in 1982 after 36 years. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army in the India- Burma Theater and achieved the rank of Major upon discharge. Survivors include his wife Frances Morgan Fordham; 4 children Amanda Fordham Williams ( spouse James), Joseph Richard Fordham, Jr. (spouse Ronni), Dr. Morgan Taylor Fordham (spouse Becky) and John Duncan Fordham (spouse Terri); 10 grandchildren Frances Williams Dyal (spouse Larry), Nathan Taylor Williams (spouse Martha), Nathalie Elizabeth Williams, Samantha Fordham DePue (spouse Dean), Dr. Morgan Taylor Fordham, Jr. (spouse Whitney), Jennifer Fordham Ham (spouse Michael), Laurel Fordham Perez (spouse Joseph), John Duncan Fordham, Jr. (spouse Joy), Joseph Bailey Fordham, and Frances Morgan Fordham; and 7 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends and family at the home of Judge Amanda and Jim Williams following the graveside service.
