MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Omie Matthews Johnson Rabun, 102, entered into rest Saturday, December 19, 2009, at The Place at Martinez Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at Stapleton Baptist Church, Stapleton GA, on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00PM with Dr. Randy Dunaway officiating. Interment will follow at Norwood City Cemetery, Norwood, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service-from 1:00-2:00PM, Monday, December 21, 2009 at Stapleton Baptist Church. Mrs. Rabun was born January 4, 1907 in Jefferson County, GA to the late Charlie Lonz Matthews and Mattie Beasley Matthews. She was the wife of the late Tom Truitt Johnson and the late Samuel B. Rabun. She is preceded in death by her brother, Lewis Matthews; two daughters, Edna Butterworth Mauldin and Bernice Williams Maddox; and five grandchildren, Michael Williams, Lisa Williams Grunenfelder, Grant Williams, April Boddiford and Robert Reed Butterworth III. Omie is survived by two daughters, Pansy J. Boddiford, Augusta GA, and Lois J. Johnson, Evans GA; one granddaughter, Rebecca Johnson, Augusta GA; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Reed Butterworth IV, Harlem GA, and Kelly Griffiths, Richland WA. Mrs. Rabun was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church. Omie had a great love for people and had many friends through the years. She had a servant's heart and was always ready to serve her community. The family requests honorary memorials be made to Stapleton Baptist Church, 360 Harvey St., Stapleton GA 30823 or to Regency Hospice, 2919 Professional Parkway, Ste A, Augusta GA 30907. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude for the care and kindness that was extended to Omie from the staff at both The Place at Martinez and Regency Hospice.
