She and her husband, Jean-Paul, started bringing out the decorations three days before Thanksgiving.

"We'd start early in the morning -- at least by seven," she said. "It'd be six at times before we'd stop."

A candy cane arch marks the threshold to a path that leads to lighted reindeer, and the white house is highlighted in red and green.

Inside, an overlay of Christmas decor is found on mantels, tables and shelves. Ms. Lejeune also has a tree trimmed in Victorian ornaments. She also has a china doll collection.

Ms. Lejeune has a good reason to like Christmas. "It's my birthday, that's why I love it," she said.

The Lejeunes have lived in Springlakes for more than 10 years, but Ms. Lejeune has called Augusta home since 1955. When they were househunting, one feature sold Ms. Lejeune on Springlakes.

"I went around to the back, and I saw the lake, and that was it," she said.

The couple can eat in the breakfast room and look out on the lake, and Ms. Lejeune feeds the ducks and geese. The geese come flapping from across the lake when she calls -- "Well, come on!"

The Lejeunes have transformed the interior. They removed a wall to combine two smaller rooms for a larger living room and added a window to look through from the kitchen to the breakfast room.

Their neighbors are great, Ms. Lejeune said, and the proximity to the mall is a plus.

"It's really a good location," she said.
