An Appling man faces weapons charges after being arrested at Byrd Elementary School in Graniteville, the Aiken County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
Lon Norville Annis, 45, of the 6700 block of Ridge Road, is charged with disturbing schools, carrying a weapon on school property and pointing and presenting a firearm.
About 9:30 a.m. Wednesday sheriff's deputies responded to a report that someone had a weapon on school property. At the school, deputies learned Mr. Annis had pointed a pistol at Steve Moore, who had pointed a finger and touched Mr. Annis' shoulder, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Myers said.
The school was placed on lockdown temporarily.
Mr. Moore was charged with simple assault and battery, written a citation and released.
Mr. Annis was being held Thursday in the Aiken County Detention Center.
Man arrested in sex assault on daughter
A former Aiken County man was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting his child.
James Wooden, 39, now of St. Matthews, S.C., was charged with three counts of committing or attempting a lewd act on a minor under 16 and five counts of criminal sexual conduct or attempt with a minor under 16, according to jail records.
Mr. Wooden, according to incident reports, sexually assaulted his daughter between 1998 and 2008, said Aiken County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Myers. The child's mother said she was not aware of the abuse until recently. Sgt. Myers said the victim was under 11 when the acts occurred.
Mr. Wooden was being held at the Aiken County Detention Center without bond.
Robbers use false story to gain entry
A woman was robbed in her Amli Way apartment Wednesday night by someone who claimed to have hit her car.
The victim told police a woman knocked on her door and said she might have hit her car, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report. When she opened the door, a man wearing a mask forced his way inside, pointed a gun at her and demanded money. The robbers took cash and cell phones, then forced the victim, her boyfriend and their 2-year-old son, into a bathroom.
Woman pushed down before purse stolen
A 27-year-old woman said someone stole her purse on Alexander Drive at Brookhaven Way on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim said a heavyset man wearing a leather jacket and a beanie hat came from behind and pushed her face to the ground, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
