Ease U.S. workers' ability to unionize

  • Follow Letters

Isn't it interesting that business leaders are so worried about workers' rights -- your rights -- when it's these employers who continually violate the National Labor Relations Act while fighting to keep workers from gaining union representation during organizing campaigns?

The Human Resource Policy Association reported only 42 decisions against unions for authorization card violations from 1937 through 2007 -- 70 years . Meanwhile, businesses violated workers' rights 29,559 in 2007 alone; over the years this calculates to about a 50,000-to-1 ratio.

And these people state they are worried about workers' rights. Give us a break. Give workers a fair chance. Give us the Employee Free Choice Act.

Raymond Hawkinberry, your letter is just too stupid to respond to. (hint: education can be a good thing)

Tigger_The_Tiger

Raymond...where I work, the unions don't get paid sick days........non unions do. Unions don't get a guaranteed 40 hr week........non unions do. Pay is equal, with the exception that the non union employees don't have to pay dues to an organization that can't even negotiate payed sick time and a 40 hr week.

Tigger_The_Tiger

A while back IBEW (international brotherhood of everybody who works..........I'm not even remotely an electrical worker) tried to recruit us, and all they had to offer was union dues.

nofanofobama

you gotta to be kidding what you want is an open ballot on unionization. this way you can visit those who dont want unions in the middle of the night. the fundamental right in our country is the secret ballot where your decisions are not known to potential political hacks..unions at one time were very important in this country unfortunately they became the monster they claimed to tame..the union leaders get fat off the workers and priced there services right out of the market. i have worked around the trades all my life non-union workers are generally better and give you a honest day of work. unions are too concerned about themselves and the fat cats who run them...

SoonerorLater

What is next, the Black Panthers standing outside of our polling places intimidating voters with weapons? OH, we are already have that. The Employee Free Choice Act is nothing more than making the ballots open so the union knows who to target. Unions have driven the Big 2 into bankruptcy, taking taxpayer money, and they still make crappy cars. Unions have outlived their usefulness, and only puts money in the pockets of the union leaders. Mr. Hawkinberry, your letter is idiotic and without merit.

Irish

Yeah. His opinion is fair and balanced....

UncleStrom

We'll start hearing from the union workers in about 2 hours when they get to work and get their coffee.

Grasshopper

When unions labor forced is maxed They bring in other union workers from out of town. Leaving out the non Union unemployed local workers. SRS is a fine example.

draksig

Unions today have only one goal. The election of Democrats to office. As far as the leaders are concerned, Union members are there only to provide funds for them to distribute to select Democrats running for office. AFLCIO, UAW, SEIU, tell me what they are doing that they consider more important than political activism?

chascush

Yeah, every body needs one of those crooked unions. SEIU, Obama buddies pension fund is only about 70% funded because of miss management by union officials. The officials pension plan, I wonder why they have a different one, if 120% funded. That is main reason they are pushing Obamacare so hard. Yeah we need more unions like the UAW so more businesses will go over seas.

butler123

They always want to go on strike and they get a little money while they are, but what they get in the end is never worth all the wages they lost.

BCG

Unions... yeah great choice pay for the right to work a job.. get over it unions had a time and place and it is done and over with!!

Niko Mahs

Being against Unions is one of the few things that the South does right! Maybe it's because they think that Unions are part of the Union Army that won the last big war. Dang, that Jeb Stuart, he should have been doing real recon at Gettysburg, and maybe Lee would have had a chance. Instead he was just riding around trying to look good. Oh well, you cannot win them all, can you?

lol, Niko

TTT I am calling you a bare faced liar for your post. Now tell us what company you are refering to or accetp the title of liar of the year. Come on now, you laid it out there, back it up with proof.

convertedsoutherner

What do unions offer now? They use to be beneficial but what is their benefit now?

themaninthemirror

Sounds like Mr. Hawkinberry is an Obamanite. If he wants to be told what to do and when to do it, just wait a few more years. Once Obama abolishes our right to vote and sets up his dictatorship, all his wishes will be granted.

Unions have outlived their usefullness. They are overpaid politicians who promise the world but yet deliver nothing. And yes it's all political when it comes to unions. And here is the BIG problem with unions, politics, our government......GREED, let me repeat....GREED GREED GREED! If we keep bending over for unions....well you know what happens.....

gaspringwater

Attaboy Raymond but you know it's all up hill. White collared corporate officers fleece their companies and southerners squawk a little but mention labor union and fair wages and they'll launch into a rant!

pittsburg

Mr. Hawkinberry belongs to a trade union. Trade unions are nothing like gov. unions. They give you an honest days work for an honest days pay. Some of the people with the negative comments should realize that their employer doesnt love them. And a lot of the trade union members are republican, just trying to make a living for their families.

Niko Mahs

Don't you Southern Guys appreciate any biting sarcastic humor, or didn't anyone ever teach you that it could actually be funny? Of course, when you are walking around with the Grump on all day long, I guess that it is tough to appreciate any humor at all. Oh and next time, I'll give you a right-handed comment. It's from the far right, so you should be OK with that, Huh?

gaspringwater

Sorry Raymond but southerners are poor nation builders. They know how to build a small wealthy upper crust and a huge poor class on the bottom but they have a poor aptitude for building a successful middle class. I suppose that comes from being constipated with their liberty.

As we post our complaints about Unions, the Chinese are moving to unionize all their operations to keep western companys from exploiting workers. Just Google "Foreign unions" and read what they are doing. And the reason they are doing it is because they realize that american companys lost their leadership in the world by convincing workers that they knew best what was good enough for those workers. Amazing that we got rid of the one thing that forced companys to play with a level deck, and it was our greed and willingness to believe that multi-millionaire CEOs' actually had our best interest at heart. Well we found out they could care less about workers and still they have a full gang of lemmings singing their praise.

RIPAmerica

Good, let the Chinese be throttled by unions. Let the unions drive up wages in China. China is a developing industrial nation, where unions are most needed. Unionizing Chinese workers is a GREAT thing. When prices of Chinese goods skyrocket, maybe American manufacturers can once again compete. It's for sure the spoiled American worker isn't going to accept less wages or a lower lifestyle to regain our leadership status in the industrialized world.
