Woman describes man who robbed her

A 73-year old Augusta woman was robbed at gunpoint as she was walking to her front door in south Augusta on Saturday night.

A Richmond County sheriff's report says a friend dropped the woman off at her house in the 2900 block of Sydney Street about 7:20 p.m. A man carrying a black firearm walked up behind her and demanded her purse, the report says.

The robber was described as black, about 20 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Radiothon raises $178,000 for kids

The ninth Cares for Kids Radiothon raised $178,000 for the Medical College of Georgia Children's Medical Center. That was $3,000 more than last year, said spokeswoman Denise Parrish.

The Thursday-to-Saturday event was sponsored by 104.3 WBBQ and 102.3 the Bull.

Dennis BBQ robbed of $628 worth of meat

Someone broke into a walk-in freezer at the Dennis BBQ restaurant at 1719 Gordon Highway and got away with about $628 worth of meat.

A Richmond County sheriff's report states that the burglary occurred between 9 p.m. Saturday and 10:50 a.m. Sunday.

The freezer was in an area behind the restaurant surrounded by privacy fencing, and a section of the fence had been pried off.

The burglar got away with one case of beef brisket, two cases of ribs, two cases of Boston butts and two cases of pork skins. A propane cooker worth $100 and a propane tank worth $80 were also stolen.

Man robs Arby's at gunpoint Saturday

A man robbed the Arby's restaurant at 2733 Washington Road at gunpoint Saturday evening.

A Richmond County sheriff's report says that about 6:15 p.m. a man carrying a black pistol entered the restaurant, told two customers to get on the floor and ordered an employee to put money into a black bookbag. The robber fled with an unknown amount of money.

The robber was described as black, between 20 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a black mask, brown pants, a brown shirt and a black hooded jacket with Coogi written on the back.

Traffic update

Traffic will be detoured from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the intersection of Laney-Walker Boulevard and 15th Street, according to the Augusta Engineering Department.

Georgia Power and the Georgia Department of Transportation will be replacing a traffic signal pole at the intersection.

Eastbound traffic on Laney-Walker will be detoured north and south onto 15th. Motorists on 15th will not be allowed to turn east onto Laney-Walker. Westbound traffic on Laney-Walker will be maintained.
