good lord! the love of money... i'm certain she won't be smiling like this when she finds out what kind of sentence she'll be looking at for this. she's ruined her life. for what? whatever happened to working hard?
An Augusta diamond store manager suspected of stealing more than $100,000 worth of jewelry over the past eight months has been arrested.
Authorities believe Mary Mainwaring Bevell, 29, stole jewelry from Helzburg Diamonds at Augusta Mall and resold the pieces to other local jewelers. Arrested Tuesday in Aiken, Ms. Bevell is awaiting extradition to Richmond County on two counts of criminal damage to property and will be charged with jewelry theft when she is returned, authorities said.
Aaron Hannsz, a property crimes investigator with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, said the missing jewelry came to the attention of the store's loss prevention department after an audit in November. Since then, he has identified at least three area jewelers who bought pieces from Ms. Bevell. The jewelers were unaware that the merchandise was stolen, Investigator Hannsz said.
"We can't say for sure all of it she sold is theirs, but quite a bit of it matches exactly," he said.
On 14 occasions between April and November, Ms. Bevell sold jewelry -- which she cut up into smaller pieces as "scrap" -- to Windsor Jewelers on Washington Road, according to Investigator Hannsz. She was paid more than $10,000 for the items. She also cut up rings, necklaces and other items then sold them to Gold Buddy on Bobby Jones Expressway in Columbia County for $6,000 and Jeweler's Loupe on Richland Avenue West in Aiken for $1,550.
In an effort to prevent others from noticing her theft, Investigator Hannsz said, Ms. Bevell would damage other jewelry to cover up the missing pieces. Authorities believe she did this during an inventory check in October, in which they found several pieces of jewelry damaged beyond repair.
"The evidence shows that on the 31st of October she damaged 35 pieces of jewelry with a value of over $35,000 in order to cover up the missing inventory," he said.

SMARTIE,APEX,JACK,IRISH,WP,CONVERTED,SOUTHERNGUY,what is the " Community" going to do? I guess nothing because the description is of one of the " usual suspect".
Ispy... You mean to post elsewhere? I agree with Guess Who... Lets see her smile when she hears that door close behind her... I pray that she goes to jail for a while. I really hate it when these folks get a short sentence and probation. I sure feel for her family. I'm sure they're proud that she made the paper.
She must was a meth baby.
Wonder if diamonds are her best friend Now?
ispy, you want hear me defend her. i'm certainly not going to blame "the system", or the po-po, or all the black people who shop in the mall.
This girl has ruined her life. I would assume the charges are to severe to be sentenced under the first offender status, so regardless of what sentence she receives, she will have a record that will follow her to the grave.
that is a DMV photo....
I hope you're prediction is wrong, Justus, but unfortunately, I believe you are correct and U know why.
justus4, why should the stores be charged. There are advertisements on TV radio and in the newspaper that say we will buy you old scrap jewlery. How are they to know if it was stolen. If my wife went nuts and cut up hers she would have more than that and none of it would be stolen.
She should ABSOLUTELY be given a light sentence or probation. After all, that is what is supposed to happen to WHITE criminals. Prisons are only for blacks and mexicans. That is the way our justice system was created in the first place!
14 occasions to Windsor Jewelers? Why didn't they notify authorities? Do they accept copper pipe too?
Silly little girl...you have ruined your life...and for what??..
Oh Justus4.......... You gotta love our justice system. Yep, looks like priorities are in order to me. Next............
She will probably get a light sentence, if this is her first offense, not because she's white though. If your first offense is nonviolent, they would rather you be put on probation and pay restitution, then lock you up in a jail for a few years. The stores that "received stolen goods" didn't knowingly accept stolen goods, they paid a fair amount for them and are not the least bit culpable.
I'm just wondering how arresting a person can be construed as a failed system. Justnuts has her tried, convicted, and sentenced as finishing probation already. That made me laugh. Justnuts, you believe in guilt before it's proven? Funny, you wouldn't like someone saying that if she were black.
Her family and friends will come on here and tell us not to judge her, lest we be judged, and we don't know all the facts. The usual.
Didn't Windsor Jewelers ever wonder where she was getting all this "scrap" jewelry from?
merry chirstmas girlfriend!!!glad your still smililing!
She is smiling because she knows she isn't going to jail, right Justus. White people actually get to go to a hotel instead.
Butler, Hotel 401!!! That made me laugh!
They're extraditing her, she's going to get more than probation.
No she will go to jail it may take a while but shell be going!
I'm just shocked. Shocked. This girl has been in the jewelry industry for over 8 years. I used to work for her at another company, and I have to say that this is completely shocking. While i haven't talked to Mary in a few years, i know she used to run everything by the book. I can't imagine what happened in her life to make her so desperate. It really just makes me sad. Really really sad.
corgi @1016 - Good call, that didn't take too long.
justus4.. Maybe the same person hired her as manager that hired the IHOP manager that was charged with attempted murder and rape.
first of all i didn't say i was her friend, nor was i defending her, just saying i was shocked. If you had ever met her you would be too...
