Do you remember when? We should

Why did you attend the tea parties?

I attended the tea party because:

I remember a time when Supreme Court justices and federal judges did not allow personal preferences to influence their decisions.

I remember when a person's word meant something.

I remember when most people took responsibility for their actions.

I remember when it was not necessary to lock doors.

I remember when I could express my opinion and not be investigated or be accused of racism.

I remember when politicians did not start running for office the day after an election.

I remember carrying my single-shot .22-caliber rifle on the handlebars of my bike and peddling through neighbors to reach the woods to plink, and no one paid any attention.

I remember when the federal government was not in charge of public education, and our children were not taught to walk through metal detectors; see guards; be under surveillance at all times; and to be subjected to a search of personal property and/or a body search. How can anyone think this is acceptable?

I remember when good manners and respect for others was normal.

I remember when local governments could not force anyone to sell (surrender) their home to a private company/developer if development of your property would generate more taxes for local governments.

I remember when the federal, state and local governments did not meddle in our personal lives.

I remember when people in government would listen to the American people.

I remember history. King George had a problem when he refused to listen to the American people.

I think the Fair Tax is an idea whose time has come.

You sure remember a long way down the road, Arlie Smith. A wealthy nation becomes disinterested in the federal government as long as it doesn't interfere too much. Our irresponsible lack of involvement has put us in a terrible position and the horrible mistake made in November has magnified our problem by a factor of 10. The only good thing about this administration is that it has awakened the realization in America that they should FEAR the federal government and limit its power. It may not be too late to act, but things look bad. Vote in 2010 to start saving our country.

Southern_Patriot

I believe in 2010 all hell's going to break out in America.

Tobie2

Do you remember when when we had Ronald Reagan for President? Back then we also had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash.
Now we have Obama for President and no hope and no cash.

nofanofobama

GREAT LINE TOBIE...arlie i remember all this too... our liberals will call us old fashion or perhaps worse. america i fear has seen its twilight and now the dark clouds of liberal tyranny is spreading. hope its not to late in 2010. but good people like you give me hope.

wizzardx1

Does anyone think that an influx of 20-30 million democrat votes will have an effect on the 2010 elections?

robbie1

Things are always better in our memories. I do think that many of the problems, mentioned by Arlie, began when we stopped being responsible for our actions (or inaction).

Our safety, our liberty, depends upon preserving the Constitution of the United States as our fathers made it, inviolable. The people of the United States are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.
Abraham Lincoln

In regard eminent domain, is Arlie referring to the case of Kelo v. City of New London, where in 2005, the US Supreme Court (whose majority is conservative)expanded eminent domain by ruling that the city could acquire land for the redevelopment of businesses? The right wing Supreme Court EXPANDED the use of eminent domain!.

robbie1

And a very sad day that was, Harper.

nofanofobama

terharper428*****please get your facts right the conservatives on the supreme court ruled in favor of the landowners. it was the libs that gave more rights to to the govt over the individual in the latest eminent domain court ruling. you know how those libs love govt control..the fallacy is that libs love the little quy no they love govt control. and big govt...

Mr. Smith, you write in generalities. To your first three "remembers," I would propose that you "remember" when you "thought" Supreme Court justices and federal judges did not allow personal preferences to influence their decisions. We could never know that with any certainty. You "remember" when a "person's word meant something." That has never been applicable to 100% of the citizenry, and surely not in politics. Next, in my experience, the person that willingly takes responsibility for his actions is indeed an exception. Yes, there may be a few, but when measured against the mass of American citizenry; they are surely in the extreme minority. Locked doors? I've been taught to lock doors since I was a child; close to 80 years ago. BUT, for several years (about 25) when I lived in Montana, I never felt the need to lock a door, neither in my home nor in my cars. Location, location is the culprit here, sir. HOWEVER, to "opinions, elections, and freedom to carry" I am inclined to agree with your concerns. GGpap

GGpap

But to continue, in our schools, with the exception of the No Child Left Behind and similar legislation that handicaps teachers and administrators, the national government is not responsible for the dismal situation in the inner cities; once more, location, location! Good manners and respect for others? You bet; that came from parental guidance and involvement with their children. No comment on "Eminent Domain." But I will say it does appear to be open to political abuse. Not good! Government involvement in personal lives, blame George for that one. Once again, generalities; "I do not believe the "government" has ever really "listened" to the American people. Dividing pros and cons, most often the "government" reflects the "opinions" of its elected leaders and not its constituents (Health reform would be a current example). And, just like George W., King George had his loyal "toadies" in the Colonies. And, I have no comment on fair tax. Mr. Smith, I feel that your letter is primarily an attack on our present administration, and secondly against any liberal government regardless of the administration. You're generalities come from your "dreams" sir. GGpap

It seems like everything gone to Hell in a hand basket, if you let this writer and those who HATE Obama say so. *YAWNS*

Well said, GG.

If Bush had tried to initiate all the guv'mint control that the ego-driven incompetent prezbho and klan are doing, libs would have been screaming from the mountains. We now have a prezbho admin that has absolutely now experience owning a business and making a payroll. We have tax cheat geitner, that couldn't figure out how to use robo-tax, making financial decisions for our country. He was prominent in the failure of a previous company. We have 30+ questionable czars making decisions for our country. If you're not concerned - You're not paying attention...

robbie1

Southerner, Like the EPA's edict, Bush's Patriot Act, was broad sweeping and also was a threat to our Freedom, and many folks were screaming. The difference was, it was actually legislation, which our Reps put into place.

Notreally

Czars LOL OMG not 30 Czars, I guess the WORLD has never heard of them until this administration. *YAWNS*

themaninthemirror

I am not a glom and dom naysayer, but if Obama has his way, in four years we will all be saying we remember when we could vote. If you don't believe it's headed that way, just watch.

It's headed that way through your eyes and people with your view themaninthemirror *Geez* I guess all the lakes, rivers and oceans are going to DRY up to in four years because he's president.

Notreally

So many FRIGHTEN, SCARY, OMG people since Nov 08 and Jan 09. They are EVERYWHERE, so many worried people sad. I still say Rasmussen or Emergency rooms across the nation should post data on people being seen for anxiety since the above two years and months. How DARE Obama be president... right... *YAWNS*.

teharper428

nofanofobama- you are correct on the 5-4 decision. A couple of the justices did rule outside their typical stands on issues. Justice Kennedy voted for the eminent domain, though he's usually conservative and Justice O'Connor wrote the principal dissent. Otherwise you are correct. That's what I get for not researching the topic fully. I was disappointed in their ruling for the City of Kelo. The decision seems more of a ruling for corporate America than the American gov't.

Niko Mahs

Notreally, I like you cannot believe all of the scared, angry, and wayward people out there. Luckily this did not happen around 1940.

bettyboop

fruity...are you really that stupid and tired???

convertedsoutherner

fruity and niky continue to prove that they won't let facts get in the way of their blindness and gullibility. You're going to love it when guv'mint takes over more and more control of your life. It's obvious that you are slobbering fawning followers and we know facts and knowledge won't make a difference to you.

nofanofobama

TEHERPER428 it was the govt that wanted the land with the promise of a better tax base. it was about money it was about A MORE LUCRATIVE tax base ie people or business with money. and look at the wall street big wigs in the current administration and how big business is cozying up to the govt..ie Ge..... CORPORATIONS i fear** like big govt because they can get rid of the small quys thru excessive rules and regulations. ..this is true for both parties. if govt takes away freedoms its hurts all.. thats why i fear big govt and big govt control..and kennedy has always been a swing vote...

KSL

Notreally, your posts, which never contribute anything to the discussion, indicate that Obama's being elected President must be the best thing that has ever happened to you in your life. How very sad for you.
