Letter to the Editor
Why did you attend the tea parties?
I attended the tea party because:
I remember a time when Supreme Court justices and federal judges did not allow personal preferences to influence their decisions.
I remember when a person's word meant something.
I remember when most people took responsibility for their actions.
I remember when it was not necessary to lock doors.
I remember when I could express my opinion and not be investigated or be accused of racism.
I remember when politicians did not start running for office the day after an election.
I remember carrying my single-shot .22-caliber rifle on the handlebars of my bike and peddling through neighbors to reach the woods to plink, and no one paid any attention.
I remember when the federal government was not in charge of public education, and our children were not taught to walk through metal detectors; see guards; be under surveillance at all times; and to be subjected to a search of personal property and/or a body search. How can anyone think this is acceptable?
I remember when good manners and respect for others was normal.
I remember when local governments could not force anyone to sell (surrender) their home to a private company/developer if development of your property would generate more taxes for local governments.
I remember when the federal, state and local governments did not meddle in our personal lives.
I remember when people in government would listen to the American people.
I remember history. King George had a problem when he refused to listen to the American people.
I think the Fair Tax is an idea whose time has come.
