Andy, a poke is a draw string bag that people used to carry their gold in. Some had pig iron (slag from making steel) in it to appear wealthy. No pig, no cat.
Sen. Lindsey Graham is trying to sell us a pig in a poke. The expression comes from the practice of buying what is thought to be a porker, only to find that it's a cat in a bag.
The dictionary definition is to make a risky purchase without inspecting the items beforehand. In addition, it can be applied to accepting an idea or plan without a full understanding of its basis.
Sen. Graham realized that he cannot sell us on the idea of increasing our energy bill by $1,200 per year (cap and trade), so he tried to sell us on this idea of becoming energy-independent through so-called emerging green energy and alternative energy.
This is a bait-and-switch con. He baits us with one thing and switches to another. He is a common criminal -- and not a smart one at that. With few exceptions, politicians who have voted for socialized medicine and this energy deception are criminals who have broken their oath to the Constitution. Nowhere in our Constitution are they authorized to do so.
These criminals think voters are dumber than dirt. What needs to be done, come Election Day, is to remove every incumbent from office. Treason trails would come next.

Lindsey Graham is one of the worst kinds of RINOs and represents everything we dislike in the term "politician". He should be flushed along with every other lifer in congress, both parties. It's not going to happen, but it needs to.
Our RINO Senator Saxby Chambliss is going to vote for CAP & TRADE because his son is an ETHANOL LOBBYIST.. EMAIL SAXBY & TELL HIM TO VOTE FOR GEORGIA NOT HIS SON.
Actually johnston.cliff, Andy is right about the pig in a poke. Here's a link for you to do some learning. http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/a-pig-in-a-poke.html
leaping lindsey needs to leap right on out of the political arena.
In a republic such as the US we get exactly the type of government we deserve. Hopefully we have learned a lesson and we will do better in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 ... etc.
Cap and trade will do nothing for the environment and increase our electric bills. As for as the so-called "green jobs" ... we can promote them if we want without Cap and trade. As for as energy independence ... Cap and trade will only make us more dependent and we can continue our research into clean alternative energy without Cap and trade.
In short Cap and Trade does nothing except increase the cost.
Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.
Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833
The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.
Samuel Adams, letter to James Warren, November 4, 1775
Marko, I'm sure that's a great story in jolly ole England. Here in America we have a different perspective. We're not part of the European Union ... yet.
Everyone keeps talking about Graham needs to go but when election time gets here voters put him right back in office. Since he was just re-elected we need to make a whirlwind around SC before the next election and find someone to run against the idiot.
Apex, Graham does need to go, just like every other incumbent in the US Govn't!
Very good letter!
Some sources show much higher increases than $1200 though.
It will increase many more bills besides energy prices since every product uses energy and manufacturers will be subject to the same carbon tax. Manufacturing costs are always added to the consumer's price tag.
We had a great chance to unseat Lindsey Gaham last year--twice--but not enough people were awake to what Graham was doing. He's been like this since he's been in the US Senate. He's just more arrogant and open about it now.
Follow the money trail and you'll find that Graham has paid off the SC Dems. He plans on being in the Senate until his death like his predeceaser.
