If you have never heard an angel sing, you probably have not met Ashley Elim.

Ashley, a senior at Evans High School, is known around campus for her lovely voice and high spirited attitude. Ashley, 17, began singing at the age of 5 at her church, Living Waters Full Gospel Church.

Since then, she has performed in chorus throughout elementary, middle and high school and is currently a member of Evans High School's Advanced Women's chorus and Gospel Choir. In addition, Ashley has also achieved many accomplishments through singing. She has attended District Honor Chorus for the past four years and All State Honor Chorus for the past two years.

Ashley has won two school talents shows and performed at the Golden Apple Awards. When asked about what singers have influenced her, she said her inspiration hits close to home.

"My mother. She's not a celebrity, but that's where my inspiration comes from. I used to copy my mom's singing and I gained my own style."

Ashley enjoys performing rhythm and blues music. Her most memorable moment of her musical career occurred during her sophomore year chorus concert, during which she composed and performed an original song, which she titled Dream. In addition to performing in chorus, Ashley has chosen to focus her senior project on vocal performance.

"I'm researching the origin, evolution and influence of gospel music. It's made a big impact on other genres of music such as R&B. For my product I'm organizing a gospel showcase performed by the Evans High School Gospel choir and other students. It's going to be a mix of African American gospel music as well as Contemporary Christian and other forms of gospel."

In regards to her vocal talent she adds, "Above all, I love singing because I can touch people with my music. I love making people happy."
