GREENSBORO, Ga. - Elaine Dang Wong, wife of the late Philip Wong, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009. Elaine was born in Hoiping village in the Guangdong province of China. Her family immigrated to Hawaii; moved to Coalinga, Calif., in the California Coast Mountain Range; and then to the San Francisco Bay area. She attended the University of California-Berkeley, and completed degrees in Business Education and Accounting. After teaching in San Mateo, Calif., Elaine married Philip Wong and moved to Augusta in 1959, where she lived until 2006. Since 2006, she has lived at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro. While raising her family, Elaine was active in their pursuits, such as Girl and Boy Scouts, and in their education. Later, Elaine worked as a financial officer at the United Way, Hammermill Paper Co., WJBF-Ch 6, the National Science Foundation and the Medical College of Georgia Foundation. Elaine was active in First Baptist Church of Augusta, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday School and English as a Second Language there, as well as enjoying craft projects and traveling with church groups. Elaine was active in the Savannah River Power Squadron, and in the Augusta and Greensboro Garden Clubs. In her more recent years, Elaine also enjoyed traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and siblings. Elaine is survived by her children, Elizabeth Wong Mark and her husband, Stephen Mark, of Atlanta, Edie Wong, of Cary, N.C., Valerie Wong and her husband, Hosea Choice, of Vonore, Tenn., Russell Wong and his wife, Lydia Wong, of Cary, N.C., and Roger Wong, of Munich, Germany, and by three grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters, Sarah Scheldwacht, Katherine Esola, and Pui Chiu Quon. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Wong, her parents, Robert Gee and Fung Heung Woo Dang, and brother, Clifford Dang. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Gregory DeLoach and Dr. Tim Owings officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd., Martinez.
