Woman's car crashes into bank

  • Follow Metro

A woman trying to park her car drove it into a Martinez bank Monday.

The accident forced the First Bank Columbia County at 3820 Washington Road to close its lobby as crews worked to repair the damage. The drive-through window remained open, according to bank officials.

Police say Stacy Nance, 50, of Augusta, was parking her Mercedes-Benz in front of the bank entrance when the car sped over the curb and crashed into a concrete pillar near the entrance before hitting the building. The pillar crashed through a window in a front office.

"It appears she hit the gas instead of the brake," Columbia County sheriff's Sgt. Thomas Langford said.

No one was injured.

Ms. Nance was not charged.
