Mother seeking help for children

  • Follow Metro

A mother of seven lost her job and has been evicted from her home. She says she and her children are now living in a Gordon Highway motel and asking help from area churches.

"All my income goes to my hotel room," she writes. "Without any help, my children will have nothing for Christmas. I would appreciate any help."

The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund has helped people facing tough times for 79 years.

Last year, the charity raised a record-breaking $124,000 that helped children and families across the region.

What a blessing it would be

What a blessing it would be for my wife and I to have a third child. Wait, we cannot afford to. So guess what, we won't!

I can certainly feel empathy

I can certainly feel empathy for a family with a lost job but am curious what job provided for 7 children or did she need help before that? I have two kids, a decent job, a home etc and I am struggling to balance the desire to provide a Chistmas with the reality of our bills. We will have one but it will be small, what we can afford. Admittedly I got turned off to these type charities after seeing my company provide a livingroom full of toys to one family, knowing it could have helped 10 in moderation.

Doesn't a motel room cost

Doesn't a motel room cost more than a home to rent? Where is this money coming from? Why have this many children if you can't provide a proper roof over their head. I agree with Martinez, I give where i know it's really needed and appreciated

Thomson, It's the Gordon

Thomson, It's the Gordon Highway motel.....Not your Super 8. Most people resort to staying in a motel because you pay one price and don't have to worry about the electric bill, heating bill, water bill, cable bill, phone bill (if it's local calls), etc.
