Elderly SC woman found shot in her car trunk

WALTERBORO, S.C. - Authorities say a 78-year-old South Carolina woman kidnapped in a home invasion has been found with gunshot wounds.

Hampton County Sheriff T.C. Smalls said Monday that Margaret Gooding of Miley was found around 4 p.m. in the trunk of her car near Walterboro in Colleton County, more than 14 hours later and about 25 miles from her home. Smalls said she was shot at least once in the abdomen, possibly twice.

The sheriff said Gooding was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and was in stable condition.

Authorities said they are investigating persons of interest in the case.

Smalls said he expects to release more details Tuesday.

3 SC men plead guilty to attacking black man

FLORENCE, S.C. - Three men, including a father and son, have admitted attacking a black man at a South Carolina convenience store solely because of his race and threatening two white men for helping him.

The U.S. Justice Department announced 49-year-old Thomas Blue Sr., 28-year-old Thomas Blue Jr. and 35-year-old Judson Talbert pleaded guilty Monday to the December 2007 assault and carjacking of Dahndra Moore as he tried to use a restroom.

The three Marlboro County men admitted the elder Blue forced Moore out of the store, and the younger Blue threatened him with a chainsaw. Talbert admitted stealing Moore's car, which he and the elder Blue burned. Moore escaped to a local home.

The elder Blue agreed to a 13-year prison sentence. Talbert agreed to nine years and Blue Jr. to three years.

Feds investigate collision in Charleston Harbor

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a collision in Charleston Harbor involving a 25-foot Coast Guard boat and a commercial catamaran.

The federal agency said Monday it has sent a team to investigate the accident that happened Saturday evening, not long after the annual Christmas Parade of Boats down the Cooper River.

The Coast Guard evacuated 24 passengers from the catamaran. Three passengers were hurt but there were no deaths.

The Coast Guard said the catamaran suffered some damage to its hull above the water line but the Coast Guard vessel was not damaged.

The weather was fair at the time.

"The elder Blue agreed to a 13-year prison sentence. Talbert agreed to nine years and Blue Jr. to three years." When do ignorant criminals start "agreeing" to their prison sentence.

All I have to say is God Bless Ms. Gooding. She must be made of some strong stuff. A 78 year old woman, missing from her home for 14 hours and shot once, maybe twice in the stomach, and lives is one tough old lady!

ICL, I was wondering that, too. What happens if they don't agree?

According to a news release from the Columbia branch of the FBI, Moore was trying to use the bathroom at a Stop and Shop in December 2007. Thomas Blue Sr. forcibly removed him from the store and held him on the ground. As a crowd gathered to watch, the younger Blue threatened Moore with a chainsaw.

While that was happening, the FBI says, Talbert stole Moore's car and drove it to a site along South Carolina's Pee Dee River.

Moore eventually ran from the parking lot, but was pursued by the Blues and ultimately had to seek refuge with a local family.

The FBI says Thomas Blue Sr. attacked a white man whom Blue thought was aiding Moore. Thomas Blue Sr. struck the man with a pistol and threatened to kill him when the man denied knowing Moore.

When another man came to the Stop and Shop later to retrieve Moore's car, Thomas Blue Sr. threatened to kill him.

Thomas Blue Sr., and Talbert later burned Moore's car to cover up the crimes, according to the FBI.
