Late-night accident in Macon kills 1, hurts 5

MACON --- Police in Macon are investigating a wreck that left a man dead and injured five others.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph the accident happened just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He said 31-year-old Maurice White, of Macon, died at the scene.

The passenger in Mr. White's 1991 Honda Accord, 20-year-old Erica Guy, suffered a head injury and a broken arm, Mr. Jones said.

He said the four people in the other vehicle, a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia. Mr. Jones said Cornelius Howard, 49, broke both his hips and his wife, Margaret, broke her left hip. Their daughter, Sabrina Howard, 17, had facial injuries and cuts. Her cousin, Breaella Robinson, 12, was taken in for observation.

Police say they have 'lunchtime bandit'

ATLANTA --- Authorities have arrested a 35-year-old man they suspect is the "lunchtime bandit" behind a string of bank robberies in metro Atlanta.

Officers from several Cobb County law enforcement agencies arrested Stephen Bowen on Friday at an apartment complex in Johns Creek.

Police say that since October, Mr. Bowen has robbed banks in Sandy Springs, Roswell, Dunwoody, Buckhead and northwest Atlanta.

Mr. Bowen is charged with three counts of robbery by intimidation and was being held in the Cobb County Detention Center.

It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.
