Don't point fingers at peaceful Muslims

  • Follow Letters

In response to Dewey Galeas of Grovetown ("Where's dissent from peaceful Muslims?" Nov. 21):

We, the Muslims of greater Augusta, are very active and visible in our community affairs. We have expressed a deep sense of shock over the unfortunate event at Fort Hood, Texas. It is the act of an individual based on his own mind-set, and you cannot implicate a religion in it. It is similar to the shooting rampage that happened at Virginia Tech a couple of years back. Would you then say, "Where are the peace-loving Christians?"

This is basically wrong and immoral. Where was Mr. Galeas when killings in malls, churches, businesses and schools, and daily domestic violence, are happening, many in his own metro area regularly? Has he ever put the blame on Christianity or the Christians at large?

The old proverb goes: You must think before you speak. In this case, Mr. Galeas apparently must search the facts, and then write and point fingers at a community or one of its elite members.

What has Mr. Galeas been doing when militias have been taking up arms against our U.S. government? Militias are active from Michigan to Alaska based on a report in The Chronicle ("Militia movement alive," Nov. 22).

Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, MASCE, P.E.

I understand the apprehension

I understand the apprehension muslims must feel as the string of hate crimes and murders committed by muslims continues to grow. From 9/11 to Fort Hood, muslims have been the perpetrators. I, for one, can no longer believe anybody telling me that islam is a peaceful religion.

Nice job Nazir, blame

Nice job Nazir, blame everybody else rather than taking responsibility or actually apologizing on behalf of your community. I haven't met many liberal Muslims, you are interesting. There have been 73 males arrested in the USA this year on terrorism-related charges, yes, all 73 profess Islamic faith.

Mr. Sheikh, Thank you for

Mr. Sheikh, Thank you for your contribution to our society as a civil engineer & thank you for your well-reasoned effort towards civil discourse with this letter to the editor. It must sometimes fell as though you are casting pearls before swine, but I assure you there are Americans out here who understand what you write & agree with you. Muslims living in America are peaceful & productive & the tenets of Islam are reasonable & true. There is no cause to disparage Muslims or their religion. Those who do only expose their own ignorance & intolerance. Mr. Sheikh, your examples of violent extremism inside the U.S. are true: 1. Pittsburgh officers Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo III & Stephen Mayhle, gunned down by budding neo-Nazi Richard Poplawski, because he believed the officers were part of a nefarious plan to take citizens' guns away. 2. Security guard Stephen Tyrone Johns, shot down by extremist nutcase James von Brunn at the Holocaust Museum. 3. Okaloosa County (FL) sheriff's deputies Burt Lopez & Warren "Skip" York, gunned down by right-wing nutcase Joshua Cartwright, who believed right-wing propaganda that President Obama was going to take his guns away. Where has Mr. Galeas' been?

Maybe Homeland Security

Maybe Homeland Security should look into Sheikh. Just another muslim defending TERRORIST activity. I'd like to see quotes or video of their "deep sense of shock" over the events at Fort Hood.
I think what they are most shocked about is the fact that a WOMAN, yes, A WOMAN, too down this muslim extremist who MURDERED innocent Americans at Fort Hood. The terrorist did murder innocents, but failed in his mission to be a martyr. Looks like there will be no reward.....which is good, since the shooter being paralyzed BY A WOMAN wouldn't be able to perform for his 72 virgins anyway! Face it America, muslims are AT WAR with western culture. Don't believe a single word these enemies say. They're being led by Satan in a war on Christianity. There will be NO peace in the world as long as there are muslims in the world. ( I show my lack of respect for them by NOT using a capital m)

Dora.Ito, your claim that

Dora.Ito, your claim that "100% of terror suspects arrested in the US this year being Muslims" is factually untrue, and as I noted in my initial comments, this false claim highlights your ignorance and intolerance. There were neo-Nazi domestic terror suspects arrested this year as well as members of militia groups and members of hate groups. The threat of domestic terrorism is by no means limited to American Muslims. Right wing terror violence is much more of a threat to this country than any threat posted by militant leftists or American Muslims.

JohnHatesAmericaCain can say thank you to a Muslim civil engineer (no slanting of Mr. Sheikh), but has he ever said thank you to a veteran on this posting? No, he slams them as puppets of corrupt US Christian policy machine spreading illegitimate Democracy and freedom to occupy foreign lands for oil and profit blah blah blah blah.

Cleveland.com - November 25,

Cleveland.com - November 25, 2009: "CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - Following a pipe bomb explosion Monday night, police and federal law enforcement officials are trying to figure why a Center Avenue man turned his apartment into a bomb factory.Police said no charges have been filed against Mark Campano, 56. Police found 30 completed pipe bombs in his apartment along with components to make more, plus 17 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Campano is in an Akron hospital with injuries received when one of the bombs exploded. As police and federal authorities puzzle over Campano's past and what he planned to do with the bombs, a former neighbor said Campano often railed against the government. ..."

9/11 as not an act of

9/11 as not an act of domestic terrorism. It was an act of international terrorism. It is ironic that the hijackers received flight instruction in United States and the FBI was contacted regarding their suspicious behavior. It was ignored. The Army was advised of Maj. Hasan's suspicious behavior. It was ignored - not because of "political correctness" but because of bureaucratic ineptness. Dora.Ito falsely claimed that "every terror suspect arrest last year was a Muslim." That is patently false information.

It's amazing how people can

It's amazing how people can see the vast number of Muslim terrorists, and the non-existent number of Muslims that condemn them, combined with the fact that the Koran instructs them to kill anyone who is not a Muslim, and yet still claim that Islam is a peaceful religion. It takes a special kind of idiot to think that way.

JohnHatesAmericaCain once

JohnHatesAmericaCain once agains spews lies. Major Hasan was not stopped because of PC. The officers at Walter Reed did nothing because they did not want to be singled out for harrassment of a "protected" group, they stated so in almost those exact words. Bureaucratic ineptness essentially is something caught up in "red tape" and held up through a cumbersome bureaucratic process. This was simply nobody wanting to be labeled a bigot or being discriminatory. The same exact reason for the FBI ignoring the warning signs. If you stay the course with your bureaucratic ineptness line, please provide facts (not your drivel rhetoric hate America opinion).

Cain you are right about one

Cain you are right about one thing,, We did ignore the warning signs in the past... But I don't think it will happen again..Our good ole boys have been getting ready for the next assault, I wouldn't mess with them..Most of them are excellent marksmen & we have had enough with outsiders coming here & causing a lot of trouble. If the muslims are not happy here, deltas waiting..
