The number of aggravated assaults in Richmond County has surpassed last year's tally and continues to rise, Richmond County sheriff's statistics show.
With two months of data still left to factor in, the number of aggravated assaults, which includes shootings, stabbings and other armed violent acts, is already higher than all of 2008.
An unusually violent October contributed to the surge.
At 48 incidents, the latest sheriff's department data for the month show it was the highest so far this year for violent assaults. That number is double the 24 aggravated assaults that occurred in October 2008.
Sheriff's officials noticed the increase beginning in June, when numbers doubled over the same month in 2008. Since then, the monthly assault numbers have stayed in the low to mid-40s.
Investigators said earlier this year that the crime increase was unusual. They had no specific reasons for the rise in violence.
Last year, 312 incidents were reported. As of October, 325 have been reported in 2009.
Also up are automobile thefts, with the most occurring in October. The data show 186 automobile theft incidents were reported last month -- 18 more than in September.
Reports of burglaries, forgeries, domestic violence, narcotics cases, arsons, rape and missing persons were all up slightly in October compared to the previous month but appeared to be typical.
In 2008, Richmond County had the fourth-highest number of violent crimes for metropolitan counties in the state behind Cobb, Clayton and DeKalb, according to the latest FBI Uniform Crime report. Violent and property crimes were up in 2008, with burglaries posting the biggest increase.

You for one should know the Feds don't play
As long as the Dem-Voter-Breeder-Programs continue to increase, (also known as subsidy programs) the number of crimes usually attributed to this group will continue to increase. In the old style of math, this used to be called a direct relationship. I find it interesting that even though we no longer refer to this relationship (because it's politically incorrect) it continues to exist.
More job loss,,,more crime...Less hope,, more crime,,Home loss,, more crime,,PLEASE READ AMERICA ON THE BRINK,IT COULD HAPPEN HERE by Bruce Judson,,The best book about what could happen here (in near future) if we don't get a grip on job loss in this country..The man makes more sense than all of the politicans put together...Some senators say the jobs are gone & won't be back (some),, Guess what ,,,THEIR JOBS ALSO will be gone & they won't get them back either,, people will change when they can't feed their family..The main reason the mex come to this country,, risk their life to do so,,
and no I'm not saying it;s ok to come here illegally,,,When we have more job loss we will resent outsiders coming here even more..
On recent trip to destin,, I noticed huge empty parking lots at big manufacturing plants... Thousands of jobs gone away..these country towns won't have other jobs for these folks..Hamburger jobs won't pay their bills,,The only plant with cars in the lot was a big KIA PLANT...get that, not AMERICAN but a KIA,,if they can make it here why can't we??
The huge redistribution of wealth push by the "unsupported home loan" program was the driving force in the collapse of the American economy. Shame on congress for allowing it. Hint: taking more money from the people who provide jobs and giving it to those who used to work for their income won't end the recession. The current horrible experiment can't end soon enough. Jobs will return when they are allowed to by the fed government. Increased subsidies only increase the criminal element.
Some people think we can't have a big uprising,,revolt,,etc. here The book states just how it could happen,,the middle class has been crushed from all sides,, crime from lower end & job loss(pension,401k,home loss) from other end...This nation needs a thriving middle class of workers..when that goes away this country will become like a third world country, We are giving up all of our pie for others to get a piece of the pie...IT WILL NOT WORK..
Southern guy,,,, I hate to remind you but one of the reasons we have a middle class IS BECAUSE OF THE UNION,,are they perfect NO,, but have they improved pay for workers,, YES,, Do you really think most ceos will pay more money,, give benefits just because it feels good??? WHERE ARE THE JOBS now?? OTHER COUNTRIES,, because they don't give a rats behind about your home payments..You can't blame everything on unions..
From the book::the top 10% of hoseholds hold 70% of the nation's wealth..We are reaching a dangerous alert line of inequality,,that could lead to sporadic protests and riots...Does the tea party revolt ring a bell??
from the book;;;;the top 1% of Americans income increased over 235% since 1978..The middle income folks have not seen a REAL INCREASE in 30 years..The income at the top has exploded..THINK when is the last time you got 15, or 20 million dollar bonus??When a business can send YOUR job to another place & pay $5000. a year when they had to pay you $60,000. They will & have done it...They reap the money,,you lose..We can't compete with this..
seenit, does your book tell how many of the top and middle income people remain in their respective categories? Is the top 10% stagnant or changing and is the "middle class" stagnant or changing? Businesses are in the business of profit. The more profit, the better the business. Providing jobs is part of the business, but how the jobs are provided and what the jobs are is also part of the business. Unions can have a positive affect on business, but seldom do. As government continues to punish American business, they will continue to move jobs to other countries. Put the blame where it belongs.
We almost went into a depression last year,, what will it take cliff to show people it can happen here?? The folks in these other countries won't be in the local grocery store,,, restaurants,,buying & paying taxes here,, will they?? You can not sustain a country with very low wage earners & high, high earners..Sometimes the south is the last to see the wind blowing in a different directon..I LOVE THE SOUTH & will always..but Obama was put in office by MANY angry whites (not just black votes) Live & let live,,,if it ain't broke don't fix it..WE ARE BROKE..
Man oh man, I thought we had the sting to end all crime for eternity in Richmond County a while back?
seenit, do you know about the banking scam that took 30 years to initiate and institute? Do you understand how this happened? Do you understand the redistribution of wealth cover-up that only seems to be working on the willingly blind?
Yes cliff I know what went on with the banks....I know also that the rep. & dem. had their fingers in the mess..when you change the laws to help all get a loan or house this crap happens..Can you tell me how you cankeep your way of life if you lose a job making $65,000. & have to take a $15,000. a year??
To all of the COMMON SENSE FOLKS please read America on the brink,,, it could happen here by bruce judson...It's not a union thing,,black or white thing ..it's a have & have not thing..I won't tell you southern guy where to put your head,, because I'm married to (A GOOD OLE BOY) love him too. The unions didn't cause all the trouble we are having now..Did you get YOUR 20 million bonus this christmas??
Justus, are you writing from prison? You are always against law inforcement and are always on the side of the criminals.
Everyone always wants to talk about people being out of work, when you talk about crime. Maybe there are a few that have lost their jobs and went bonkers, but for the most part these thugs never worked to begin with.
seenitB4, lots of thoughts, any solutions?
Hard labor!
YES JUSTFACTS,,, BUY LOCAL do business w/USA companies..Make it profitable to keep american jobs here, demand to speak to americans when you have to call any business with a problem,,Let the co. know you aren't buying from them if they don't have more am. products..Let your senators know you don't want your taxes going to a business that will send good jobs to other places..my family has college grads out of a job & can't find one paying what they lost..KIA by the way got MUCHO tax incentives to build here..so did NCR to keep jobs here & they haven't done everything they promised.
Good ol' Cliff Johnston (aka Patricia Thomas, Whipping Post, what next?). Breeder programs, eh... Stay classy, Cliff-Pat!
seen, admirable suggestions, but not practical. It will take more than a grass roots effort.
Yeah, breeder programs: http://www.larryelder.com/welfare/welfare.htm
You had no problem knowing what I meant, HootFot, stay blind, it's a matter of being pro-choice.
WELL FACTS,,, no one thought obama had a chance did they. It is a fluke that happen?? We have more angry people over this nation I'm not the only one feeling this way.. as you can see it worries me.. Please give some ideas that will work..I need to feel better about our jobs..
