Why do we have so many naive people in positions of power? Are we so stupid to think that the terrorists can infiltrate the Iraqi and Afghan armies and police, but not ours? Is anybody even paying attention?

Welcome to Augusta, Cirque du Soleil Alegria. Just got back from tonight's show and it was fabulous!

I'm with the person talking about The Gaither Vocal Band at the James Brown Arena. I really was amazed at the crowd. It was an awesome reunion, and it lasted for four hours. I was most proud of the out of town buses that came in full of people. There was not enough coverage of this, as it brought a whole other generation of people together for a concert, and it was totally worth the ticket prices.

Your story about poverty talks about building self-esteem. Self-esteem is pride, and pride works against you, not for you. No wonder none of the poverty programs work. Maybe if the programs tried teaching self-control that would help. But then, self-control is the opposite of self-esteem.

Big front page story on Thanksgiving about poverty and poverty rates. Georgia has a poverty rate of 14.7 percent. With all the government payouts, programs, checks, etc., there is no excuse for any poverty in the U.S.

HEAD:: "Obama to make climate pledge." Obama will pledge to solve a nonexistent climate problem that, even if it existed, would not be solvable by man. It's a proven scam, and Obama says he will "personally commit to the U.S. goal." He's putting his "prestige" on the line. What prestige?

From your "credit card" column: 1. Don't buy what you can't afford - sensible. 2. "Keep your credit card balance at 20 percent." Huh? If you did No. 1, you wouldn't owe even 1 percent. No 2 should be: "Keep your balance at zero."

Rant to the sudden hatred of Oprah. Just because she endorsed a presidential candidate different than your choice, all of a sudden she's a villain? She has done more good with her fame and money than any other person in this country! I and millions of people out there love you and will miss you Oprah!

I have been a resident of Harlem for over 40 years. I was appalled to learn the other day that our Department of Public Safety officers did not receive a raise in 2009. Also, I was shocked to learn that these public safety officers are all cross-trained as police, firefighters and paramedics. I think it is ridiculous to ask the Public Safety Department officers to continue to perform all three of these duties without a raise. Someone in the community should do something about this!

G'mornin CSRA! While most of y'all were sleeping, there was a fatal shooting at the Economy Inn in the 3000 block of Deans Bridge Rd (about 1:15am). There was also a bomb threat called in to Club Hollywood just after midnight which resulted in approximately 500-600 folks having to evacuate. Nice start to a Sunday morning. So far none of the news services have noticed either incident that I can find.

Nonexistent Climate Problem - We should consider ourselves fortunate to have a local luminary who writes to the Chronicle and says there ain't no such thing as a climate problem. Albeit, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), consists of 2,500 scientists from more than 130 countries and their thinking is different. The US is only 5% of the world's population but we produce 25% of the world's greenhouse gas ( CO2 ) emissions. China produces slightly more CO2. Ice caps are melting and sea levels rising but our local luminary says - ain't no problem! Wonder what his scientific credentials are?

If sea levels are rising, why is it that when I go to Myrtle Beach each year, the water still ends at the same place on the sand. If Al Gore was right, wouldn't some of the beach front property be under water by now?

JerryAtrick

gasping, another blissful day in store for ya, huh? Have you missed the major news stories about the global warming data being falsified? There is no such thing as man-made global warning - period. (unless you count the space heater under my computer desk)

JerryAtrick

From Fox News for your morning reading enjoyment. I hope everybody had a less-stressful T-Day than this lady. "A Boston, MA woman says she was forced to split her time between helping her daughter deliver a baby at home and cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Patricia McCalop was in the middle of preparing the meal when Africa McCalop suddenly went into labor two weeks early.
The grandmother called 911, and a dispatcher talked her through the delivery and helped her confirm that the baby girl was healthy and breathing.
Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and took the mother and newborn to the hospital. They are both in good health.
McCalop said she kept running between the kitchen and her daughter in labor because she didn't want the turkey to burn while helping her child deliver the baby.
The infant weighed six pounds." Does anybody know offhand how much stuffing a 6 lb infant requires?

All the people making money off the "global warming" are trying to push it through before anyone notices that world temperatures are again on the way down. Luckily when they predicted another ice age because it was getting colder in the 1970's people were not gullible enough to panic and start setting up massive outdoor heaters to combat the problem.

overburdened_taxpayer

The Congress mandated "green" lightbulbs are cute but shouldn't some kind of recycling program have been set up to recover the mercury in them so they didn't leak in the water table under landfills? You need a HAZMAT team if you break one in your home. Just sayin - when you combat one problem don't start another one with the solution to the first.

And this is just "Before Clean-up: Ventilate the Room 1.Have people and pets leave the room, and don’t let anyone walk through the breakage area on their way out. 2.Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes or more. 3.Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system, if you have one." http://greenupgrader.com/714/how-to-clean-up-a-broken-cfl-light-bulb/

Coastal areas are eroding faster than ever and sea level is rising - that's right, there are tidal gauges that definitely show that sea level is rising. Glaciers are melting (check out Glacier Natl Park's glacier) sea ice in the Arctic is melting. Birds are shifting their ranges further north. Coastal cities are experiencing more floods in their low lying areas, due to higher high tides. For you skeptics - the temperatures are always going to fluctuate, with some cooler years and some hotter years. The truth and the actuality is that the temps are on an increasing TREND, up up up. Pull the cauls off your eyes and wake up. The time to take action was 20 years ago. Now we're standing with our backs to the wall.

JerryAtrick

bubbles, get a glass of water and float an ice cube in it. Then make a mark on the glass and let the ice melt. Come back and check the water level and tell me what you find.

overburdened_taxpayer

In just one glacial area (College Fjord) there are several glaciers that are receeding but in the same Fjord there are also several glaciers that are advancing. Harvard Glacier, the largest in the Fjord is advancing. Why is it that you global warming theorists only talk about the one's receeding? Never hear you talking about the one's advancing. The one's advancing just doesn't fit into your agenda does it? And explain to me how global warming can melt glaciers in the same location as ones advancing.

JerryAtrick

ot, man, you are asking many "inconvenient" questions this morning. Sure feels warm outside today, don't it?

Bubblesup - Here's the IPCC Summary report if you haven't already found it. Others are invited to look it over too:

Arctic sea ice is white, reflects sunlight back into the atmosphere. When sea ice melts, less sunlight is reflected back into the atmosphere, and more is absorbed by the ocean. That warms the ocean, speeds melting, etc. LAND ice is also melting JerryAtrick, and when it melts and runs into the ocean, that raises the level of the ocean. Glaciar Natl Park had 150 named glaciers in 1850. Today 25 remain. Predictions are that those 25 will be gone by 2030. Also 81 of the 111 Greenland glaciers surveyed are thinning at an accelerating, self-feeding pace. In some parts of Antarctica, ice sheets have been losing 30 feet a year in thickness since 2003. It's time to start reading the scientific reports and learning as much as you can about what's going on. Because you, JerryAtrick and Overburdenedtaxpayer, are not experts on abrupt climate change and cannot argue credibly about it.

JerryAtrick

I can post 50 articles and studies proving it's false for every one can find on the lunatic fringe sites. Do you want to play this game? I'm willing. Facts are on my side, I have won already.

Bubblesup

Give it your best shot Professor Atrick.

gaspringwater

JerryAtrick - You asked bubbles to do a high school science lab experiment. And I'll answer it for bubbles. The water level will lower. Now it's your turn to strut your intelligence and say why the water level goes down. It's just dumb kid's stuff. But what you asked has nothing to do with the world's climate change

JerryAtrick

If you had any ability to comprehend basic scientific facts and solar and global climate cycles, there would be no need for me to explain it. It's like trying to talk to a black person who voted for Obama for that reason only. There is no hope of changing your mind. But just for the fun of it, start here -- http://www.abd.org.uk/green_myths.htm

Bubblesup

Explain why the glaciers (land ice) are melting, and why the sea ice is melting. I'm all ears.

JerryAtrick

Because sunspot activity is at a 50 year low. It's happening on Mars too. Next?

justthefacts

Bub, same reason the place you are standing used to under ice as tall as the Empire State Building. Then, I guess, the Indians started building camp fires and the rest is history.

gaspringwater

JerryAtrick - You ran away from that one and that's a clue.

Bubblesup

http://www.skepticalscience.com/solar-activity-sunspots-global-warming.htm

"The most commonly cited study by skeptics is a study by scientists from Finland and Germany that finds the sun has been more active in the last 60 years than anytime in the past 1150 years (Usoskin 2005). They also found temperatures closely correlate to solar activity.

However, a crucial finding of the study was the correlation between solar activity and temperature ended around 1975. At that point, temperatures rose while solar activity stayed level. This led them to conclude "during these last 30 years the solar total irradiance, solar UV irradiance and cosmic ray flux has not shown any significant secular trend, so that at least this most recent warming episode must have another source."

In other words, the study most quoted by skeptics actually concluded the sun can't be causing global warming. Ironically, the evidence that establishes the sun's close correlation with the Earth's temperature in the past also establishes it's blamelessness for global warming today.

Explanation Professor Atrick?

JerryAtrick

I'm not gonna bogart this page to prove y'all's ignorance. That is out of respect for the other readers and posters. It's too silly to even discuss. Get with TechLover and go to breakfast somewhere. There are over 1.6 million hits on google proving my contention. I am not about to post them all. Since you are posting, you can find them as easily as I can.

JerryAtrick

This "Cap and Tax" nonsense is dead in the water after the revelations of the intentionally falsified data. That is the best news for our country. Keep attending your Critical Mass rallies and pretend you are helping and have a very blissful day.

Bubblesup

Attack, cut and run JerryAtrick. What a weenie!

JerryAtrick

I sent you a link, care to address any of those 10 points?

crackerjack

Since gaspringwater says the water will lower (not) when the ice melts, then when the icecaps melt, sealevel will recede. Sorry, da water be goin down.

gaspringwater

overburdened_taxpayer - You mentioned CFL light bulbs and their mercury content. That's a concern for me too but I'm reading that CFL bulbs will be phased out and replaced with LED light sources. You'll notice that even Sears is selling an LED drop light. It seems all traffic lights are being retrofitted with LED's and many newer vehicles are using LEDs in their rear lights. Cost are high at this time but LEDs have a very long life expectancy and they're not a hazardous waste to my knowledge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode

apex24

Gasp, now you're certifiable. How much money have you given to Al Gore's multi-million dollar hoax. It doesn't matter how many scientist you get to say what you want, it still doesn't make it the truth. For you to quote the far left groups you do shows you're not to bright. You Leftist will believe anything but the truth!!!!
