Cloward-Pevin plan will bankrupt this country

The editorial " 'Get serious'? Seriously?" (Nov. 9) was a great piece! The question it brings forth is far more complicated than simply asking "Is Obama concerned about the debt?"

In the 1960s, two Columbia liberals named Cloward and Pevin devised what became known as their "strategy." It was designed as an experiment on how to destroy capitalism by making lower-income people aware of all the goods they could get from the government while contributing nothing. The strategy was tried in New York City in the 1970s and succeeded in bankrupting the city.

The same strategy is being applied to our nation now in several ways with the identical purpose. This administration's sole purpose is to create dependence on the federal government by enough people so as to ensure themselves power for the long term. Purely and simply, the plan is long-term control of the entire country.

The Cloward-Pevin Strategy is a founding principle of the ACORN group, and President Obama was and still is in concert with all involved. If we don't reverse this course, it may require pitchforks and torches.

we are now at the point of having almost 50% of the electorate paying nothing yet getting government checks every month. The poor can now rob at the point of a ballot..Soon as in the classic childrens book "The Giving Tree" those that produce will have nothing more to give..those that recieve government checks for nothing feel they are entitled to them and they are told they deserve more..

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage." Alexander Tyler wrote this over 100 years ago in reference to the Athenian Republic. I think it applies today. America is trying to move from apathy to dependency.

Cliff, I agree but the selfishness came first. That is why people get angry. See all politicians spend other people's money the repubs just want it to go to a few and dems want it to go to many. Pick your poison. To bring it to a local level repubs want to give Morris and a few a guaranteed profit and the TEE center deal the dems on the council are trying to give money to several thousand with the lw/bethelem revitalization plan. Both are spending taxpayers money on gambles but just pick your poison.

johnston.cliff

concernednative, I think there's a big difference between wealth envy and apathy. When half of the nation gives up, there's no nation left. You can assign attributes to each party if it makes you more comfortable, but by doing so you miss the big picture.

justus4

"low income people" = minority citizens, so there's no use in reading further..."we" know where that is going..."yeah, yeah, "those" people caused all our problems or "we pay all the taxes and they get all the benefits" the coded language of closet racists that's heard all day, every day on the non-minority air waves (supposed to belong to the public) and the AWM's special channel. Nothing new here, just an entitlement mentality that is rooted in discrimination and hatred.

jg41160

johnston.cliff, you are missing the big picture. The current two party political system is built on "What's in it for me?" Until and if that changes, the national debt will continue to rise as supporters of one or the other are rewarded. What you refer to as wealth envy, others see as objection to policies which make the rich richer. There's nothing wrong with attaining wealth through work and ingenuity. There is something wrong when laws are enacted to guarantee those who have remained those who have. (Rates may be higher, but come on man. 38% - 25% in write-offs is less than a blue-collar worker pays). There is also something wrong when those who have attained wealth are taxed to pay for those who do not seek to advance themselves. So what's the solution? FAIR TAX and a return to the system where government took care of the needs of ALL of its citizens.

Tigger_The_Tiger

If you can't find any real racist, make it up and call it "coded language." WOW. OK Justus4...let's assume you are correct (which you are not).......WHY would they be entitled to receive benefits and contribute nothing...................even if as you insist, they are all minorities.

apex24

Remember people, if Justus dislikes this LTE it must be true and good!!!! Just a reminder that if Justus, RCR and Ispy go against something then it has to be good for most people.

Pitch forks and torches? Another small minded, freaked out point of view by a far right nut case which the AC so loves to publish. A small amount of research discredits the majority of the author's statements. While the extreme left Cloward-Pevin Strategy did exist, it had nothing to do with New York's bankruptcy which was due to bad politics and mismanagement. Just like you all see here in Augusta...

Tigger_The_Tiger

Again...if you can't refute the letter writer....just belittle and discount his points. Same tactic which is used to attempt to play down the tea parties............but people are getting wise to that tactic.

iknowitwheniseeit

Git yer pitch fork ready Tigger!

Tigger_The_Tiger

I'm sure the supporters of George III said the same thing.

johnston.cliff

ig, I disagree with your reasoning, but I agree with half of your conclusion. I, too, feel the Fair tax is the only answer. The "government took care of the needs" part is a little vague. The specific powers and duties of the fed government is laid out in the constitution. Our current congress of the self serving seem to have forgotten that... both sides. Of course, our government school system has trained most of today's voters, so what do you expect?

johnston.cliff

owitwheni, none are so blind...With a little effort, any situation can be justified if one is willing to ignore the obvious.

corgimom

NYC never went bankrupt, so right there, you know this is junk.

Tigger_The_Tiger

NYC declared bankruptcy in 1975, so right there you know who doesn't know what they are talking about. None so blind as those who ignore history either.

wizzardx1

Have ANY of you even scanned over cloward-piven/obama?

corgimom

No, they didn't. The unions and the Federal government bailed them out. Some of us were alive back then and remember events, TTT.

Tigger_The_Tiger

Apparently there are those that just know that it doesn't look favorable toward Obama, therefore they have already made up their mind that it doesn't apply, and never happened. Those who can think will look in to it, Wiz.

Tigger_The_Tiger

Bankruptcy WAS declared...THEN they were bailed out, so wrong again.

Tigger_The_Tiger

The policy worked so horribly that they had to be bailed out....but when the Federal Government tries to use the same policy, who will bail us out? Hard to believe someone would defend a policy that resulted on a bailout requirement. WOW!

CobaltGeorge

Have to say it again - "Those that do not accept documented and known FACTS, just are not too smart"!

corgimom

Post when it was declared, Tigger. Declaring bankruptcy is a legal proceeding that a judge has to approve, and be filed with the court, not somebody standing up and saying "We're bankrupt" http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/05/nyregion/recalling-new-york-at-the-bri...

devontaekelly

Corgi, don't type of what you know nothing about. Tigger is right and you are wrong. You have been that way several times lately. Please research before you post.
