Faith digest

Country concert benefits charity


Country artist Ty Herndon will perform at a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Ext. Tickets are $10 for general admission or $20 for VIP passes that include a meet-and-greet. The show benefits the Make A Wish Foundation. Call (706) 733-2236.

Several Augustans have been honored for their service to the Catholic church community. Barbara Kareis, Joan Purucker, John Ridick and Mary Soparas earned Gartland Service Awards, presented by Bishop J. Kevin Boland on the Feast of Christ the King. They were delivered Sunday at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Ga.

Live on the Lawn

A concert at 11 a.m. today benefits SafeHomes of Augusta, a domestic violence intervention center. The show, which features 10 acts and is headlined by Eleventhour, is free, but donations are needed for the shelter. Needed items include detergent, alarm clocks, sleepwear, new pillows and cases, journals, dishes and utensils, pots and pans, toiletries, diapers, strollers, suitcases or Walmart and Target gift cards, which help women set up homes of their own.

Donations are accepted Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 4 p.m. at 904 Merry St. Call (706) 736-2499.

Restoration Praise

Restoration Praise, Bible Deliverance Temple's Southern gospel group, celebrates its fifth anniversary with a concert at the church at 7 p.m. today. The church is at 1857 Fenwick St. Call (706) 736-1600.

Christian Singles

The weekly dance of Augusta Christian Singles is 7 to 11 p.m. today at the Ballroom Dance Center, 525 Grand Slam Dr., Evans. Admission is $8 for members of $10 for guests. Dances and smoking- and alcohol-free. Call (706) 863-9262.

Special worship

Green Branch Baptist Church, 3254 U.S. Highway 25 N. in Waynesboro, Ga., will hold an evening service at 6 p.m. Sunday, with psalmist Leonard Williams from the Williams Brothers. Call (706) 437-9933.

Handmade ornaments

Hope House, a long-term residential treatment facility for women and their children dealing with substance abuse and homelessness, will sell ornaments at First Friday this week on the corner of Broad and 10th streets. The porcelain ornaments were created by the families of Hope House under the supervision of local ceramic artist Rosemary Forrest. Call (706) 737-9879.

Eat with St. Nick

St. Nicholas will visit St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road in Grovetown, from 9 to 11 p.m. Dec. 5 for breakfast with children. Breakfast items cost $3.50 to $7.50. Activities include pictures with St. Nick, arts and crafts. Call (706) 863-4956.

Equine Ministry

Angel Wing Equine Ministry presents a free horse clinic, featuring Lara Santos and Claudia Alexander as guest speakers, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at 5005 Story Mill Road in Hephzibah. The ministry functions as a support group for women of all ages who are interested in learning about horses while improving self-esteem and coping skills. Art auction

An auction and wine tasting start at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 the Augusta Jewish Community Center, 898 Weinberger Way, Evans. The preview runs until 7 p.m., when the wine tasting begins. Christians in Unity
