Downed stop sign noted after fatal crash

SYLVANIA, GA. --- Authorities say a downed stop sign could be responsible for last weekend's traffic death of a Methodist minister.

It was daylight and clear weather at 4:40 p.m. Saturday when the Rev. Joseph Roberson, 57, was traveling west on Poor Robin Road, said Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Ben Forehand. A yellow sign saying "Stop Ahead" was still in place, but the stop sign at Georgia Highway 21 was down, the trooper said.

The Rev. Roberson drove past the downed sign, across the northbound lanes of Highway 21 and into the southbound lanes, where a tractor trailer driven by a Sylvania man struck his car in the passenger side. The truck was carrying 47,000 pounds of paper. The sheriff said he thinks, based on the way the sign and tire tracks looked, that the sign was knocked down by a logging truck.

i am writing this on behave of my family,i do not condone the life style of selling or using drugs and the using of any kind of violance of any kind. but i do want to say that no matter what may or may have not gone on in that car (none of us really can say because we were not in the car with them ),my nephew did not by no means desever to die like that. because you give respect to a dog. and my nephew was not an animal. if it was a drug deal gone bad or whatever he still did not deserve to be left on the side of the road like he was some kind of an animal. valtine could have brought him to his grandmother house or came and told her that he was hurt. because they were like brothers. so the family would likefor you all to concider your selves and how you would feel. and we pray that you will not ever have to feel what we are feeling right now.

Kristenia, you are expecting normal, moral, rational behavior from criminals and drug users. Criminals and drug users don't exhibit those traits. I'm so sorry for your loss.
