I met District 1 City Commission candidate William Fennoy more than 40 years ago when he was a student at Paine College. When I started The Augusta News-Review newspaper in 1971, he was on the original staff.
I have always known him to be intelligent, kind and level-headed.
I am supporting him in his bid to represent District 1 for the following reasons:
- He has a college education. His opponent does not.
- He has government experience (the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority). His opponent has none.
- Fennoy never has been arrested for any crime. His opponent was convicted of a felony, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling drugs. He served time in prison before he was pardoned.
- Fennoy has lived in District 1 for eight years. His opponent has lived in the district for two years.
I strongly urge the voters of District 1 to vote for the better-qualified candidate -- William Fennoy.
Mallory K. Millender, Augusta
Government Experience--- The Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority??? LOL... That's funny... Who in the world would want THAT on a Resume'???? Also, there is no guarantee that a college education means you have common sense. District 1 needs to get out of it's ghetto mind set... no matter who is elected!!!!!
Millender is not exactly an unbiased fella now is he?
If anything, his experience with The Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority shows what a "deadlock" mindset he will bring if elected. I disqualify him for my vote on this alone.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Fennoy on the Coliseum board that was completely kicked off and replaced by an entirely new board because of the fighting and inability to get anything done?
LOL...this is the problem folks...just keep on electing these fools because of the color of their skin....you will get just what you deserve...the same nothing you have now......can people really be that stupid AND stubborn?
P.S. I hope good ol' Mal is willing to apply those standards to other political races. Funny thing is, all the faults he listed show Matt has more in common with the 60% African-American population in District 1 than Bill does. How many have degrees, no criminal record, and would choose to stay in District 1 for any length of time if they could move out? Mallory thinks of himself as a Civil Rights leader of note in our community but he is a race hustler just like the idiots holding the 'press conference' yesterday saying white folks should not be able to run in majority black districts. Same old story different day.
You would think a "college graduate" would have some sense and control over the English language; what ARE they teaching in colleges these days? I remember times when you learned to write and speak the language at an early age. If this is a sign of what he "learned" in college then it must be the college`s fault, right? For people that seek equality, isn`t equally imperative that you become tolerant of (and maybe attentative to) the people with which you would be equal???
His service on the Coliseum Authority should have disqualified him from ever seeking election again. They accomplished nothing and had to be replaced. His service on the board shows a lack of ability to get along with others and a lack of understanding on what is important to Augusta. These are the important qualifications.
I think Aitken's inexperience is a plus. And his time in prison will help him relate to many of the citizens in District 1 but his skin color may hold him back.
You know a lot of jobs require a college degree. I work with a lot of people who have them, I don't have one. I train them to do their jobs and correct their work every day. Most can't read, write, speak or spell properly much less grasp what they are being taught but they have a college degree!
I believe Aitken has displayed and continues to show Common Sense over a Degree in Stubborn Race Promotion!
I believe, from his coliseum tenure, one would call Fennoy a "do nothing obstructionist"! When you replace an idiot with an idiot, you still have an idiot!
augusta is black and white, and always be this way, until all the old people are gone.black thinks white is trying to get over and white thinks black is getting over.i am looking in to the future when we are all people, not black or white.
"more than forty years" in Richmond County, but ONLY eight years in District 1 (thanks to government-subsidized housing); eight DAYS should've been enough to see the problem. Now he wants HIS neighborhood cleaned up/jobs "created" by the government upon which he's been dependent since graduating with a degree in history (?) during the riots.
Right: and he still believes Charles Walker was "unfairly targeted".....what do all those degreed prosecution lawyers and appeals judges know?
Augusta has a chance to rise above racism. Vote for Matt Aitken. Several good reasons not to vote for Fennoy are: He visits Charles Walker REGULARLY in prison, his supporters are Betty Beard, Calvin Holland, Mallory Millender, Champ Walker, (also Charles Walker, obviously), and Marion Williams. I have never met a more divisive group of people. Under these people's lack of leadership the city has become a cesspool of crime and decline. They have known about the problems for YEARS. If they are not part of the solution they are part of the problem! Vote for Matt Aitken and change we can believe in.
FallandLeft, posts like that take you down to their level. Get the personality out of it. You brag you don't live in District 1 any longer. Just take a chill pill.
Tell me why we should vote for someone who has already told the people of Augusta that he will vote solely along racial lines. This man is a puppet for the radical blacks in Augusta. He will do as he's told to do by idiots such as Marion Williams, Chump Walker and yes Mallary Millender. If you want Augusta to rise above where we're at right now, William Fennoy is NOT the person to elect. If you want Augusta to get even worse than it already is, yes worse, then elect Fennoy.
I read the same letter that you guys read, but I did not see any mention of race. The letter writer simply stated that he supported Mr. Fennoy because he is better educated, better qualified, has lived in the district longer and has never been arrested which is in contrast to his opponent. I thought those were qualities that one would look for in a candidate. If those are not the qualities that you are using to pick a candidate...what's your real reason for supporting Mr. Fennoy's opponent?
Forget the run off, put up a ring in The Commons and let 'em duke it out. Woody can be the referee.
What Mallary Millender means is.......I'm black, I'll be voting black. If you be black, you best vote black too.
Fennoy's tenure on the coliseum authority was a joke. All he did was pontificate and obstruct. He's a bully. He'll do the same thing on the Augusta Commission. Millender makes a big deal of Aitken's drug conviction, however, if Charles Walker got out of prison and ran for office, he'd be amongst the first to support him. A criminal record has never been an impediment for blacks supporting black candidates, matter of fact I'm pretty sure a long rap sheet might be a prerequisite for a black vote.
Fennoy and Millender are both Charles Walker proxies. A vote for Fennoy is a vote for Walker. Imagine that, attaining a vote on the commission while serving time in Federal Prison. Honestly, I wish there were a better choice than either of the two candidates running.
Fred, I guess you've been under a rock or just moved to Augusta. What you are reading here is not necessarily posts against this letter. What you're reading is from Fennoy & Friend's past statements.
I do have a positive thing to say about Mr Fennoy during his time on the coliseum authority. I saw and spoke with him at EVERY Augusta Lynx game. I sure wish I could get me one of those admission badges.....
The endorsement by Mallory Millender is one that I echo. Bill Fennoy is a community activist in every sense of the word. Those outside of the community may not be familiar with his keen intelligence, his kind and generous spirit because he does things without public fan fare. He, however, is a man who will take a firm stand on issues he believes and will swing a firm "wallop" to any one who gets in his face when the occassion calls. He's is the kind of representation District 1 needs: A representative of the people with no other political agenda than to make a positive mark on the lives of the people residing in District 1, especially the youth.
Obama was a community activist too. How is that working out? Another great unifier!
lets see, mallory is upporting fennoy because his opponent was arrested for drugs, yet he vothed for obamaman who was a cocain head. Go ahead mallory and spunk, admit you are supporting fennoy because he is negro. If you were boting on his civic performance (colieseum authority) you would vote a resounding no on him!
arrested for battery, yep I would say that is definitely "level Headed".
sojakpelfree mr fennoy was not arrested, mr merry was, get
your facts right.
guess who, think you need to recheck, warrants were sworn out for both and both were booked.
I've spoken personally to both candidates and neither strikes me as a strong candidate. But being a voter in District 1, my first instinct is to vote for the candidate who will break the status quo. That leads me to only one conclusion. To get ANYTHING done, one must vote for Aitken. Putting Mr. Fennoy into that seat will guarantee a deadlock. That is the last thing this city needs.
Let me see...as I recall at an October 8th Harrisburg forum, a question was asked regarding what we should do about crime, prostitution, and drugs. His answer was to start with better education and raise the kids right. Now, if I recall, most of the crime, prostitution and drugs are not committed by children.... So where does THAT leave us???????????? (Scratching head). Oh yes! And after having been asked October 8th what his stand was on the Chronic Nuisance Property Ordinance (CNPO), he said we needed to enforce codes already on the books. Never you mind, now, that the CNPO is an ENTIRELY different ordinance than what is currently on the books. OH! OH!....and then, a month later, he asked Rob Sherman (AFTER THE MAN HAD RECENTLY ANSWERED THE QUESTION...where was he when Mr. Sherman answered it the first time?) if any current city codes would do the job that the CNPO would do. Now, if I were a candidate for District 1, knowing that the CNPO is foremost on many of the constituent's minds, I believe I would have done my homework (being a college-educated man and all) and researched for MYSELF the city codes to see what, if any, the proposed CNPO had in common.
