'Tis the season, and the celebrations have begun.
The first week in December will bring a cluster of artsy events.
From 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3, First Thursday at Midtown Market on Kings Way will showcase various artists, and there will be holiday music by Eryn Eubanks and the Family Fold (new CD available); saxophonist Fred Williams' jazzy holiday tunes (CD available) and treats from Homemade in a Hurry chef William Coxwell (cookbook, Keeping Christmas, available). At 6 p.m.Dec. 3, the Morris Museum of Art, 1 10th St., will hold its opening event for the Beverly Buchanan exhibit, Response and Memory. Collectors and gallery owners Ann and Ted Oliver, of North Carolina, will talk about the artist and the development of their collection. A reception will follow. At 10:30 a.m. Dec. 3, Historic Augusta is offering a new event, Deck the Halls, at the Joseph R. Lamar Boyhood Home on Telfair Street. Greg Boulus of Charleston Street Fine Flowers and Events has created evergreen and fresh floral decorations and will offer tips on decorating mantels and tables. Tickets cost $20.
That event is a prelude to Historic Augusta's annual Candlelight Tour of historic properties, Dec. 4-6. Call (706) 724-0436 or www.historicaugusta.org.
Henry Wynn will open an exhibit of his intricately detailed drawings at the McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah in McCormick, S.C., on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A musician as well as an artist, Mr. Wynn creates his drawings using a tiny point Rapidograph technical fountain pen. Thousands of stipples go into each work, and each takes months to complete. See his artwork and check out his music at www.henrywynn.com.
Saturday, Dec. 5, the Fire House Gallery in Louisville, Ga., will open Dreams and Visions, an exhibit of paintings by Philip Morsberger and sculpture by Anita Huffington. A reception is planned from 7 to 9 p.m. See www.galleryafire.com.
Rounding out that weekend will be an open house celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Museum of Art. There will be a holiday sing-along led by some of Augusta's music directors and performers, refreshments and a trunk show of handmade jewelry by Susan Senn-Davis and her daughter, Amy Hammarlund.
