Clemson's Spiller a finalist for Doak Walker Award
CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson's C.J. Spiller is among three finalists for the Doak Walker Award.
The school announced Monday that the senior running back would join Alabama's Mark Ingram and Stanford's Toby Gerhart as finalists. The award goes to the country's top running back.
Spiller is Clemson's first running back to be a Walker finalist.
The 15th-ranked Tigers close the regular season against South Carolina on Saturday.
Longtime USC journalism school dean dies at age 89
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Dr. Albert Taylor Scroggins Jr., a World War II veteran and former dean of the University of South Carolina's journalism school, has died. He was 89.
Dunbar Funeral Home confirmed Monday that Scroggins died Saturday after an extended illness, but did not provide specifics.
Scroggins served in the South Pacific in the Navy during World War II. He led journalism and campus publications programs at the University of South Florida, and at Southern Illinois and Samford universities. He retired from the University of South Carolina in 1985 after 20 years as its journalism dean.
Survivors include his wife, Lilla Scroggins, two daughters, four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia.
SC company that makes pet food flavoring to expand
HODGES, S.C. - A South Carolina company that makes flavoring for pet foods is expanding its Greenwood County headquarters, adding 50 jobs.
Officials with SPF North America tell WYFF-TV that the company plans to add a research and development center to its facility in Hodges.
The company says it will begin construction next year on the $10 million expansion.
SPF North America says it also plans to build a center to study how and what dogs and cats eat.
