CINCINNATI --- Freshman Katie Rutan made three consecutive 3s during a first-half run that put Xavier ahead to stay and had a steal and layup that ended No. 14 Arizona State's comeback and sent the ninth-ranked Musketeers to a 59-46 victory on Saturday.
Xavier (2-0) never trailed after Rutan came off the bench to lead a 13-point run. She also had a steal and layup after the Sun Devils (2-1) cut the lead to 38-36 in the second half.
Xavier pulled away by holding the Sun Devils to one basket in the next 11 minutes.
Rutan finished with 13 points. Amber Harris had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Xavier, which was playing with the highest ranking in school history.
Danielle Orsillo led Arizona State with 11 points on 4-of-15 shooting.
NO. 7 LSU 72, HOUSTON 54
In Baton Rouge, La., freshman reserve Adrienne Webb scored 17 points to lead the Tigers over Houston.
LSU senior guard Allison Hightower scored 16 points and Katherine Graham had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Turnbow added 12 points for LSU (3-0).
Courtney Taylor led Houston (3-1) with 18 points and nine rebounds.
NO. 17 DEPAUL 84, SAN DIEGO 64
In Chicago, Deirdre Naughton scored a season-high 24 points to lead DePaul to a victory over San Diego and help the Blue Demons capture the Maggie Dixon Classic title.
The Blue Demons (4-0) broke open a tight game midway through the first half, using a 13-1 run over a 6-minute span on the way to a 39-26 halftime advantage.
The Toreros (2-2) sliced the deficit to 52-44 early in the second half as Sam Child hit three 3-pointers.
The Blue Demons responded with 12 points in a row, including a pair of 3-pointers from Jennifer Juergens for a 62-44 lead with 8:55 to play.
NO. 20 OKLAHOMA 74 TCU 70
In Norman, Okla., Abi Olajuwon scored a career-high 23 points and Danielle Robinson added 16 as Oklahoma bounced back from its first loss of the season to beat TCU.
Olajuwon, the daughter of former NBA player Hakeem Olajuwon, steadied the Sooners (2-1) inside during another poor performance from 3-point range. She made 11 of her 15 shots, while Oklahoma connected on just 27 percent of its 3-point attempts.
Starr Crawford led the Horned Frogs (2-1) with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Helena Sverrisdottir had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
NO. 24 MIDDLE TENNESSEE 84, AUSTIN PEAY 73
In Clarksville, Tenn., Alysha Clark scored 38 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Middle Tennessee to a win over Austin Peay.
Brandi Brown added 13 points for Middle Tennessee, which was playing its 1,000th game in school history.
Clark helped the Blue Raiders (2-1) build a 13-point lead on three different occasions before Austin Peay (1-2) rallied. The Lady Governors trailed 72-67 with five minutes left after a basket by Meghan Bussabarger, but they could get no closer.
