Jaguars rally to beat Benedict

COLUMBIA --- Eighth-ranked Augusta State rallied from a seven-point deficit at halftime Saturday night to earn a 68-58 road victory over Benedict.

With the victory, the Jaguars improved to 2-0 for the season. The contest marked the season opener for the Tigers (0-1).

Senior forward Fred Brathwaite scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Jaguars. Augusta State trailed 33-26 at the half but outscored Benedict 42-25 after intermission.

PFEIFFER 97, USC AIKEN 78

In Salisbury, N.C., despite five players finishing in double figures, the Pacers dropped their first game of the year with a loss to Pfeiffer in its final game of the Salisbury Roundball Classic at Catawba College.

Pfeiffer's Chris Woods led all scorers with 34 points on 12 of 19 shooting. Woods also tied with James Crowder for a team-high in rebounds with 10.

Michael Technow led the Pacers (2-1), who were tied with Falcons at halftime, with 16 points.

USC Aiken fell to 2-1 for the season. Pfeiffer improved to 2-1.

NORTH GREENVILLE 44

USC Aiken stayed unbeaten in the young season with a win over North Greenville in the Lady Jaguars Tip-Off Classic.

Sophomore transfer Hannah DeGraffinreed continued her stellar play with a 17 point, 10 rebounds performance. She would later be named tournament MVP.

Nakia Pinkney chipped in 11 points for USC Aiken (2-0).

AUGUSTA STATE WOMEN 106

A record-setting game in the Lady Jaguars Tip-Off Classic between Glenville State and Augusta State led to the Lady Jaguars falling to 0-3.

The two teams combined for 217 points, the most points ever scored in a game involving the Lady Jags. The previous record was 200, set against Clayton State during the 1998-99 season.

Brittany Jarrard led all scorers with 25 points for Augusta State. Teammate Kirsten Stallings came away with a double-double after scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Donita Adams led Glenville State with 20 points.

PAINE COLLEGE 70, CLAFLIN 59

In Orangeburg, S.C., Paine College opened its season with a victory over Claflin.

Senior Julian English led all scorers with 26 points for the Lions.

Geno Green added 15 while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

Eric Salley finished as the top-scorer for Claflin with 13 points.

PAINE COLLEGE WOMEN 62, CLAFLIN 55

In Orangeburg, S.C., the Lady Lions (1-1) got 16 points from Shanee' Butler and beat Claflin for their first win of the season.

Paine's Areyal LaDeatte had a strong day on the boards, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.

Claflin's Lashaundra Barron had 18 points to lead all scorers.

COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA 77, AIKEN TECH 70

In Aiken, Anthony Rapley scored 26 points for Aiken Tech but the Knights fell to the College of Coastal Georgia.
