One person was killed and two were wounded in a shooting Nov. 22, 2005, near this Huddle House in North Augusta. Officers say the shooting might be featured on America's Most Wanted.

North Augusta Public Safety Chief John Thomas said he has spoken with the producers of America's Most Wanted in hopes of finally catching the man who killed one person and wounded two others near a Huddle House.

"When I got here eight months ago, one of the priorities was the Huddle House case," Chief Thomas said.

Today is the fourth anniversary of the shooting.

The department has been in contact with the show almost from the beginning, said Detective Tim Thornton, the lead investigator on the case.

"A couple of months ago my contact with them told me they were ready to take it to the next level," Detective Thornton said.

Officials from the show told him they might be in the area this week for interviews.

The episode is still in the early planning stages, but it could air in the spring, Detective Thornton said.

The department has made the details of the case available to producers for re-enactment if they choose to do so.

At about 6:13 a.m. Nov. 22, 2005, a man attempted to carjack 59-year-old Constance Davidson's car as she went through the drive-through at Burger King on U.S. Highway 25 near the Interstate 20 interchange, according to The Augusta Chronicle .

Mrs. Davidson refused to surrender her vehicle, and as she sped off the man shot at her car with an SKS-type assault rifle, wounding her in the back.

The man then ran to a nearby Huddle House and killed 61-year-old William Powell and wounded the Rev. Earl Carter.

The gunman tried unsuccessfully to steal one of the two men's vehicles. When it wouldn't start, he forced Ida Mae Heath from her car at nearby Bojangles Famous Chicken and Biscuits and escaped in it.

The car was found five hours later at the Sleep Inn on Edgefield Road, about a half-mile from the crime scene. Police estimated the car had been driven 100 miles after the hijacking but can only speculate about where it went, Detective Thornton said.

There has been no trace of the gunman since. Detective Thornton said one theory is that he climbed into the back of a tractor trailer at a nearby truck stop. He said he hopes that when the story airs someone will call with a tiny piece of information that might not have seemed important at the time.

Meanwhile, the department will continue to follow up on leads.

"We're not going to stop until we solve this thing," Chief Thomas said.

Justus you are right... He probably is living right there in Richmond cty... Very close to the area the crimes were committed. Why not demand More Police,Pay them more,,& support them??

peonynut

I take exception to anyone critizing North Augusta Public Safety especially when the person doing the critizing has only the facts released to the press and sits on his rear judging everyone. If he thinks the case is so easily solved then come over here and solve it. Oh but that would require actually doing some physical work instead of just using his fingers on a keyboard. We have an excellent police force. Unfortunately we are being infiltrated by criminals from across the river that seem to walk around with impunty over there. As I mentioned, if you can solve it then by all means get off your duff and do it.

just4us, u do nothing but whine and complain about how law enforcement officers do their job. U got such a big mouth why don't u try the job some time and then u will see the real picture.

bettyboop

Because napd justas more than likely couldn't get a job as a garbageman.......justas is just a seagull who flies over this site drops a load of poo and then flies on...no guts or brains to stay and argue his whines.

corgimom

Justnuts, with his cracked crystal ball and equally cracked ideas, KNOWS that it was an Aiken Cty resident. Justnuts has issues with law enforcement and justice since Big Daddy went "off".

humbleopinion

I'm surprised that Justus didn't claim that all the stops hadn't been pulled to solve this crime since the victim was white, and had it been a black guy murdered they would forget about it. After all, we all know how racist the police are.

But again I'll state my claim that Justus is nothing but a troll looking to get a rise out of the readers on here. After all, nobody except Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton could really believe all the nonsense he writes.

joekm46

Humble I agree! Justus crawl back under the bridge you live under....

tired of the crap

justazz is nothing more tan a whinning ,ingrate who wants everything handed to him on a platter just like his kind always does. they think that people owe them, hey get a job and earn what u get dont depend on the system to take care of yall.

sueboo418

you ever notice how justus only makes one comment and you never hear from "it" again in the same article?? hmmmm

chel

Maybe everybody should just ignore any posts that Justus4 makes and pretend as if he does not exist. He gets a "rise" out of anyone who disagrees with him, so I say just pretend he does not exist. Besides someone mentioned not to long ago that he posts under various names to make it look as though someone agrees with his opinion.

sueboo418

Chel I can't imagine anyone in their right mind agreeing with anything he/she/it has to say. I'm with you, don't even acknowledge justass' comments and maybe it will go away. LOL

corgimom

Oh no, he's not going away, neither is his father. Big Daddy wants to come back and start over.

Peonynut, I agree. We have an excellent police force here IN N Augusta. One reason they stake out the brdige is to stop the RC scum/criminals from coming over here if possible. Better to ignore Justass the plantation escaped slave.

I'm proud that these residents of the csra are defending our protectors. We have to realize that they are only human beings as we all are. They make mistakes like each of us. I have not met a super human hero as of this date, but I know many of our men and women in blue that work in this community and live here as well. They care deeply about the community and try very hard to do their best job and they never know when they are going to these emergencies if they will live to experience going home to their loved ones when their work shift is done. Most go to church and raise their children in this community with the desire of safe streets and justice.

SouthernWays

You used the key word-community. This murderer belongs to a community. Even a hobo community, is a community. Someone knows him, and knows his ways. The people that know of criminal behavior, and do not report criminal behavior are called accomplices, because the criminal could not continue without them keeping their mouth shut. An accomplice may desire to tell for a reward, when this murder is televised.

When criminal communities are tolerated, or even when communities tolerate criminals, law enforcement is hindered. Law enforcement can not be expected to create a clean heart in these communities. We look to God Almighty, and those who serve Him to work in this area.

So get off the cops back, and let him/her do the best they can with what they've got. If you really want to do something about criminal behavior, work on cleaning up the hearts in some of these communities. You know the saying, "lead, follow, or get out of the way". Sadly quite a few people have gotten out of the way, and moved to safer neighborhoods, and are now shouting back over the fence complaining. What for? Two separate women were robbed today. You want to blame the police for that?
