ATLANTA --- Defenseman Martin Skoula scored two goals, and the Pittsburgh Penguins held off the Atlanta Thrashers in a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.
Atlanta scored both goals in the third period, the last by Maxim Afinogenov with 18 seconds left.
It was only the third victory in eight games for the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins (15-8), who have been plagued by injuries after opening the season by winning 12 of their first 15. The Thrashers (10-7-2) fell to 4-5-1 at home.
RED WINGS 3, CANADIENS 2
In Montreal, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored on Detroit's first two shootout attempts to give Detroit a win over Montreal.
Datsyuk, who netted one of Detroit's two power-play goals in the first period, deked and put a shot past Carey Price on the Red Wings' first shootout try.
PANTHERS 3, RANGERS 2
In New York, Nathan Horton, Jordan Leopold and Steven Reinprecht scored goals and Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves as streaking Florida beat a slumping New York.
Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik scored for the Rangers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.

In Los Angeles, Jarome Iginla scored a goal in each period to lead Calgary.
Iginla completed his first hat trick of the season, and ninth of his career, with a shot from the right circle that got past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick with 4:07 left in the game.
BLUES 4, ISLANDERS 1
In St. Louis, David Perron scored twice, and Patrik Berglund's first goal in 13 games proved to be the difference in the St. Louis' victory.
HURRICANES 3, LIGHTNING 1
In Raleigh, N.C., Tuomo Ruutu and Jussi Jokinen scored second-period goals to help Carolina beat Tampa Bay.
Chad LaRose added a goal with 4:23 remaining in the game.
MAPLE LEAFS 3, CAPITALS 2 (SO)
In Toronto, Phil Kessel, Niklas Hagman and a couple of good bounces helped pull Toronto out of another extended winless slide.
The Toronto forwards scored shootout goals in a victory over Washington.
SENATORS 5, SABRES 3
In Ottawa, Daniel Alfredsson had two goals and an assist and Filip Kuba had a goal and three assists to lead Ottawa past Buffalo.
Chris Kelly and Milan Michalek also scored for the Senators.
STARS 5, DEVILS 3
In Dallas, Defenseman Stephane Robidas had two goals and two assists, rookie Tom Wandell scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and Dallas beat New Jersey.
COYOTES 3, FLYERS 1
In Glendale, Ariz., Keith Yandle scored a power-play goal with 9:41 remaining to help Pheonix beat Philadelphia for its second victory in three games.
