Buzzer-beater 3 by Faison lifts Pacers
In Sa-isbury, N.C., Byron Faison 's 3-pointer at the buzzer -ifted USC Aiken to a 92-90 victory over Catawba on the first day of the Salisbury Roundball Classic on Friday.
Re'mon Nelson led the Pacers (2-0) with 22 points.
USC Aiken takes on Pfeiffer at 4 p.m. today.
- Sophomore transfer Hannah DeGraffinreed had 27 points and 16 rebounds as USC Aiken beat Glenville State 93-77 on Friday in the opening game of Augusta State's Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Tournament at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
In the nightcap, the North Greenville women held off Augusta State, 73-65.
Brittany Jarrard came off the bench to lead the Lady Jaguars (0-2) with 14 points.
Augusta State and USC Aiken will switch opponents for today's games. The Lady Jaguars will play at 2 p.m., followed by USC Aiken.
- In Denmark, S.C., the Paine College women fell behind early and dropped their season opener to Voorhees 72-53 on Thursday night.
LaDeatte Areyal led Paine with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Golf
Junior event starts at course in Aiken
The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Aiken is playing host to the American Cup today and Sunday.
The tournament features the top 32 players from the Georgia Junior Golf Tour against the top 32 players from the Atlantic Coast Junior Golf Tour.
Nine holes of four-ball match play and nine holes of alternate shot are scheduled for today. Eighteen more holes of match play, nine each in the morning and afternoon, are set for Sunday.
During Friday's practice round, 14-year-old Russell Sabol, of Martinez, recorded a hole-in-one on No. 8.
- The Augusta State men's team remained in the top 10 in the Golfweek magazine and Golfstat polls.
The Jaguars, who have concluded their fall season, are ranked No. 9.
That is the same spot they were in when the last Golfweek poll came out Oct. 21.
Augusta State had top-10 finishes in all five fall events, including a victory.
South Carolina is ranked 11th, Georgia is 21st and Georgia Tech 22nd in the Golfweek poll.
In the Golfstat poll, South Carolina is ninth, Georgia Tech is 17th, Georgia 20th and Clemson 23rd.
Oklahoma State is ranked No. 1 in both polls.

Pacers sign three freshmen for 2010
USC Aiken has signed three incoming freshmen for the 2010 season, two from Florida.
The Floridians are middle hitter Endea Ellison, of Orange Park, and outside hitter Leah Rogers, of Lake Mary.
Right-side hitter Emily Maassen , of Ellisville, Mo., is the other signee.
Tennis
Tour won't reopen Agassi doping case
The ATP Tour will not reopen a doping case against Andre Agassi even though he admitted to lying about using crystal meth in 1997.
- Augusta State's tennis teams are in the top 10 in the Division II Southeast Regional rankings. The women are fifth and the men ninth.
The Lady Jaguars are also 22nd in the national poll.

Canadiens hold off Capitals' comeback
In Washington, Travis Moen and Tomas Plekanec scored in a three-minute span early in the second period, Michael Cammalleri added a goal in the third, and the Montreal Canadiens withstood a furious comeback to beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Friday night.
- In Detroit, Bryan McCabe 's goal 40 seconds into overtime gave Florida a 2-1 win over Detroit.
- In Buffalo, N.Y., Patrice Bergeron scored 47 seconds into overtime, lifting Boston past Buffalo 2-1.
