Top mental hospital cuts off admissions
MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. --- A state official says Georgia's largest mental hospital will stop admitting new patients.
Thomas Wilson, a spokesman for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, said Central State hospital in Milledgeville will remain open, but new patients are being diverted to the state's other facilities, The Telegraph newspaper in Macon reported.
Federal investigators visited Central State about two weeks ago as a follow-up to an ongoing investigation of the state's psychiatric hospitals.
Mr. Wilson said that among other things, investigators found problems with the physical environment. He said an example would be the need to remove faucets with angles that can be used as an anchor for a rope.
Pre-K Chinese program will use lottery funds
ATLANTA --- The state Department of Early Care and Learning is starting a Chinese language program for 4-year-olds in the state's free pre-kindergarten classes.
Department Commissioner Holly Robinson said Georgia has the first lottery-funded pre-K program in the country to offer Mandarin Chinese classes.
The program will provide daily Mandarin instruction and teach children about Chinese culture.
The state is working with the Confucius Institute at Kennesaw State University, which is part of a larger network of similar institutes across the country.
Through lottery ticket sales, Georgia provides free pre-kindergarten to 82,000 children in the state.
Clayton County wants sheriff's badges back
JONESBORO, GA. --- Clayton County sheriff's deputies are searching for more than 100 sheriff's badges issued to people who aren't allowed to carry them.
Former Sheriff Victor Hill distributed the badges and ID cards to campaign workers, pastors and some of his friends.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Sheriff Kem Kimbrough, who took over in January, found an incomplete list of 121 people with badges.
The sheriff's department has issued redesigned badges to current deputies.
The new badges are a seven-point star and have employee numbers on them. The old badges have six points.
Mr. Hill could not be reached for comment.

All the manufacturing is going to China. Anybody that speaks fluent Chinese will, when they become adults, have a J-O-B. Smart thinking by the parents. Wake up, China is becoming the superpower of the world.

jebko, that deal with Communist China was cut by Reagan and both of the Bushes (After Nixon opened the door in the 70's) China has financed Bush's wars and Reagan's tax cuts and in the process US companies have moved millions of American jobs to Communist China because slave labor is more profitable than paying US workers a living wage. And the GOP has rewarded those companies with tax cuts for shipping those jobs overseas to increase profit. But then again, the Republican Party has ALWAYS placed money above Country. Don't forget, Grandpa (Prescott) Bush had his Bank (Union Banking Co) seized by the Government during WWII because he was laundering money for the Nazis while the US was at war with them....

When you have people in China willing to work for 30 cents an hour, what do you want America to do? How do you stop a business from building a plant in China? How do you stop a business from making a profit? How do you stop a business from closing an unprofitable plant?
