Gustafson gets closer

RICHMOND, Texas --- Sophie Gustafson moved within two shots of leader Lorena Ochoa at the LPGA Tour Championship on Friday before second-round play was suspended because of bad weather.

Ochoa didn't play on Friday after shooting 6-under 66 early Thursday. She will start her second round at daybreak today.

Gustafson shot 70 in the first round, then played 11 holes and moved to 4- under on Friday. Helen Alfredsson, Juli Inkster and Wendy Ward are 3-under.

EUROPEAN TOUR: In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Lee Westwood shot 3-under-par 69 to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Dubai World Championship, strengthening his chance of winning the European money title.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, the leader of the money race, also shot 69. He was one of six players tied for second place at 7-under, two shots behind Westwood.

PEBBLE BEACH INVITATIONAL: In Pebble Beach, Calif., D.A. Points shot 2-under 70 at Del Monte, and Matt Bettencourt had 71 in wind and rain at Spyglass Hill to share the second-round lead Friday in the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational.

PGA TOUR QUALIFYING: Five golfers with area ties are among the top players through three rounds of various PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament second-stage events. Today is the final round, with the top players advancing to the finals.

In Pine Mountain, Ga., Aiken's Kevin Kisner (64-67-66--197) has a four-shot lead. North Augusta's Scott Brown (71-69-65) and David Robinson (67-78-70) are tied for third place at 205. The top 19 advance to the finals.

In Kingwood, Texas, former Augusta State star Emmett Turner also has a four-shot lead after rounds of 68-67-67--202. The top 20 advance from this site.

In Brooksville, Fla., former Augusta State player Major Manning is tied for 10th place after three consecutive 69s. The top 21 move forward from this site.
